There's a much smaller version of the farmers' market in Napier on Saturday mornings (9 until 1, in Emerson Street near Clive Square) and I think the stalls in Napier are also at the market in Hastings on Sunday morning, but the Hastings version (8.30 until 12.30 at the A&P Showgrounds on Kenilworth Road) is much bigger and better - vegetables, fruit, preserves, breads, baking, walnut brittle, olive oils, fish, meats, sausages, gourmet delights of all kinds. You can get coffee and cooked treats for your breakfast once you are there so go early (the savoury crepes are well worth trying, but there's waffles for the sweet-toothed, and of course coffee). There's an ATM machine for when you run out of cash because you got tempted by everything. Shady trees. Plenty of parking. Toilets.
If you go in early summer the market is outside in park like surroundings. Fabulous stalls with local produce and flavours. Easy to wander around and sample (there are plenty on offer). One of my favourite stands was DeNegri. Highly recommend this experience.
A foodies heaven. What an excellent selection of vendors and foods. Bought food to bring back to Auckland with me. Well done Hastings.
I love this market, but I only tend to come to buy stuff for Xmas because I don't live close enough, and some things are a little too expensive to buy on a regular basis. Great way to fill up on fancy, different, tasty, unusual food for a special day of the year. The atmosphere is great, under the trees, with lots of like-minded people. Very relaxing, with lots of free parking available in a beautiful setting.
During the summer months, this is one of those must do's on a Sunday when in Hastings. There's a wide range of food stalls from local producers - most of whom allow you to taste their various wares. There's usually music or some form of entertainment, and people just relaxing and enjoying themselves. I can highly recommend the chilli stall, and the venison black pudding was just fantastic.
Wonderful morning out. Plenty of variety at this well run and organised market. Lovely treed location. We enjoyed a lovely brunch here and we were spoilt for choice.
This is a fantastic market. Not too huge, but very local and has lots of great things. We are tourists and were told to stop by on the way out of town and are so glad we did! Wonderful people and great selection. I will second another users review, don't eat beforehand!
As part of our visit to the Bay we wanted something to do on the Sunday morning and asked about Farmers Markets. We were told of the Hastings Farmers Market at the Hastings A&P grounds. It was clearly very popular and we came away with fresh fruit and vegetables and breads. Of course there was a lot more there e.g. wines, snacks, seafood etc but we got what we went looking for. I understand it starts around 8.30am and I would highly recommend getting there earlier rather than later as a lot of the fruit and vegetables had already gone.
The market is open on Sundays at the Hastings Show Ground. There are many stalls each offering delicious food all grown or produced by local growers. It is difficult to pick out any stall because they all offered such amazing food. We tried cheese, pizza, honey, ice creams and bought food to take home.
