Helpful information and coupons for attractions around Huntsville are available. Maps and suggestions are given out. Having just relocated to Huntsville area, I made this a stop for info.
This was an amazing way to spend a rainy day. However, the only thing is that on a rainy day the outside bus tours did not run, so, we could not take advantage of that. The most amazing experience was walking into the hangar and seeing the Saturn V on its side in 4 pieces. Wow, what a sight. Be sure to save plenty of time for that, as that is where we spent most of our time, and took mostly all of our pictures! It was a learning experience, but wear comfortable shoes as it is a lot of walking.
Always visit the Visitors Center for maps, ideas and discounts. Huntsville has many hidden treasures and this is where to find them.
I've been here multiple times, especially when I first moved here, and always enjoyed the experience. The employees always treated me like a long time friend, or due to my age a prodigal grandson. They know all the local events, best ways of getting places, and where the best eats are. I've always felt welcomed there.
The visitor center is staffed by some very helpful women who know the history of the area. I visit them often as I do a 10K walk that starts from the VC. You can get lots of information about activities in the local area. My favorites are the 10K walk around the Twickenham and Old Town historic districts and the Luck Duck Scavenger Hunt. Both give you a great opportunity to discover downtown Huntsville and an opportunity to become acquainted with this wonderful city. The scavenger hunt is not particularly easy so it is challenging for adults as well as children. If you are able to locate all of the ducks tucked into various corners of downtown you receive a price of a rubber ducky garbed in space themed attire. When you come to Huntsville please start at the VC!
we should have gone here before the space museum as it would have saved $5 a ticket. They were wonderful and you can also get a free picture with the space museum as a background. At the museum they charge $20 for the same thing. Brenda offered lots of suggestions for things to do and even had helpful ideas for destin, fl, our next stop. She could not have been more helpful guiding us to their doorstep even though we had no idea if we were headed north or south. They have a cd for a walk or drive around the historic area. Well worth the stop!
The three ladies staffing the help desk were a delight to talk with on a Saturday morning. They answered all of our questions and pointed us to the Weeden House, and gave us a walking tour booklet for the antebellum homes around there. Highly recommend visiting the Huntsville Visitor Center!
Nice staff.....all the up to date info you need on FREE local events going on in the area, as well as the popular tourist destinations! You can purchase discount tix to some of the popular area attractions too. We plan to make this 'must stop' each time we visit this area.......U should to!
We stopped in to get a map as we are new to the area. The woman inside wouldnt leave our side! They're actually we very nice but were over zealous for their love of all things Huntsville. We would like to go back and look around when we could do so by ourselves!
Gosh, talk about Southern Hospitality - the two ladies who were there just could not help us enough - suggesting a restaurant that turned out to be outstanding and giving us solid directions to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center. Very nice place, extremely clean. Great start to our Trip!!!
