I took a 2 hr. tour of West Point on a recent Saturday afternoon. The guide LaNon was excellent. She was well informed, had a great personality and made the tour thoroughly enjoyable. Even though I have visited the USMA many times before, I learned a great deal during the tour. The Visitors Center where you buy your tickets and start your tour is just outside the main gate. It has an amble parking lot, interesting exhibits and a movie. Even though the tour is by bus there is some walking involved.
We booked a one hour tour - great way to see the campus (only way since 9/11). The one-hour tour includes the chapel and trophy point. Our guide was very informative and great at answering all our questions. The lady we had at the Visitors center was very helpful with getting us setup and pointing out best times to take a tour. The grounds and views were beautiful.
Was really good trip. We took expended 2 hours tour. Was very interesting. Tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. Nice museum right behind the visiting center. Free admission. I recommend for families. it will be great quality time to spend with your children.
We enjoyed every minute of the one hour tour. Joe was our guide. Stops were made along the route and Joe did an excellent job explaining all the history involved about West Point and the USMA. It's a definite must if you visit West Point.
$14.50 for basic bus tour of West Point, with a couple of off-the-bus walkarounds. Good way to get the lay of the land and hear some West Point history and tales. Recommended.
Suggest you arrive early. We arrived just in time for the 1 hour tour at 9:45 a.m and there were only 4 of us. Not having to wait for lots of people to get off and on the bus we had more time to learn about West Point. Our tour guide was a West Point graduate and really knew the history as well as having first hand knowledge of the experience. We walked through the chapel and were given plenty of time for questions and pictures. We walked around Trophy Point and the Plain where the parades are held while being given the history. There are displays in the Visitors Center about cadet life that were very interesting. Next we visited the museum which is adjacent to the Visitors Center. There are truly impressive displays and well worth scheduling several hours to take advantage of all that is there.
My husband and I went on a two hour tour which began on a very comfortable Trailways bus in the parking lot outside the visitors center. The grounds of West Point are beautiful. We are on and off the bus 3 times seeing different sites. The tour leader was very informative and answered all questions that anyone had. The two hour tour includes approximately 45 minutes visiting the very solemn cemetery but it is well worth the visit. It was very informative and surprising to visit the graves of many people that I never knew were buried there. We also visited the chapel which was beautiful.I am handicapped and use an electric scooter. My husband stored the scooter in the luggage storage area on the bus in between stops on the tour. The scooter was able to navigate the uneven terrain through the cemetery and other hills put pushing a wheelchair (if anyone who used one was interested in doing this tour) would be challenging but doable. To do this tour, however, a person would need to be able to board the bus.We learned a lot and I have high respect for the men and women cadets who have or are attending West Point. Highly recommend this tour!
Great narration - don't miss the home football games for teh Cadet reviews and seeing the Corps in Michie Stadium.
This was my second time. I brought my parents who were from other country. We signed up for 10:30 am 10/20 West point campus tour in the visitor center. A short figure lady with British accent was our tour guide. At the beginning, she seemed not too happy to see only about 10 people were on the bus during the 10:30 tour. We were the last bus left the parking lot and first bus came back to the parking lot, I wonder she just want to come back sooner... She just keep talking throughout the trip, didn't even leave ANYTIME for the people on the bus to take pictures at all!!!! when we were in the first stop-chapel area, I was telling my father there would be a time to take pictures based on my previous experience, but NO, not at all, she didn't even let us go in the front of chapel to take a look, she let us to sit in the middle of chapel and listen to her talk, then asked us to leave with her, my father run quickly to the front to take a picture and she was angry at us saying" you are with group, you understand"...what a rude old lady!!!!!,. My parents were very upset about her attitude, I can't find where I can complain this lady, so here it is, West Point! you are ruined by a talkative lady! We pay the tour in order to visit a nice campus and take pictures, not for a LECTURE for the entire tour. Shame on you, British Accent Lady! I forget her name she talked in very low voice and her speaker never worked until the last five minutes...
