In June I wanted to do some horse riding in Hood River on my vacation from England. I tried the Double Mountain Horse Ranch and has a unforgettable time. Margo was terrific, very knowledgable about the area, sets the pace you wanted to go and was very friendly and helpful. The horses were really good - she has a large number and will pick the correct horse for your ability. During our ride we stopped off at the winery (which was also rather pleasant) before riding back. I thoroughly recommend you give it a go.
My husband, a friend and I decided last minute to do a horseback ride while we were in Hood River, OR. We gave Margo a call and even though she was in the middle of riding camp and dealing with lots of kids when we called, she set us up for an evening ride that night. The staff at Double Mountain was very helpful in getting us geared up, and led us over to the trailhead (we could not ride through the orchards since it was picking season.) We were so glad for the mountain trail ride instead of the orchard, but I am sure the orchard ride would have been nice as well. Margo was great at making sure we were all comfortable (some of us were horseback riding newbies) and that we saw some wonderful scenery along the way. Can't say enough good things about this experience!
I had a great experience. Margo and her family were very friendly and kind. They made my first time riding a horse a great one! We had a really fun time, and she took the time to teach us about the horses.
From the outset it feels like you're driving up to someone's abandoned backyard. you keep driving then see the horses behind the run-down shed. if you're looking for luxurious amenities and pampering, then you're in the wrong place (and wrong part of the state). but if you're looking for a good time, Margo will exceed your expectations!Margo will pair you up with horses suitable to your ability and fit you with the right boots. We asked for the wine tasting ride and got more than we asked for. this is truly a family run operation which means they are flexible and down to earth. grab lunch on the way? no problem. visit another winery? no problem. take photos, change routes, go faster/slower... you get the idea. everything is possible and Margo will make sure you get the most out of your trip. just tell her what you're looking for and they will make your day!
My daughter and I had a wonderful time with Margo and her horses. They are fun, mannered, responsive and safe. The scenery is awesome. Highly recommended and can't wait to return!
This was the best excursion of my trip. The horseback riding was so much fun and Margo did everything in her power to make sure the ride was everything I wanted it to be. This is the single best way to see the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge area and the Pacific Crest Trail!!!!!
A ride with Margo from Double Mountain takes you through orchards or to waterfalls, with views of snow capped peaks and beauty that is almost impossible to describe. Her horses are docile and ready to go. All you need to do is show up and come along for the ride.
This was truly an unforgettable experience. With not much notice, Margo provided a ride for my family and I through beautiful country down to the river. It was nothing less than fantastic, the face on my wife and boy made it very special for me. Awe inspiring views every way we turned! We definitely recommend this to any family looking for some fun in the outdoors. The cowboy boots and hats provided definitely set the mood! A very special treat for my family!!
A great ride around the Hood River orchard company. Make sure you dress the part! Shoulda been a cowboy!
Margo and Co. went above and beyond the call duty in accommodating us for my partner's 40th birthday horse ride. Since we were arriving from in Hood River by bus, Margo agreed to pick us up at the bus depot. She then drove us to get some lunch at a nearby supermarket before taking us to her farm. Before Margo got us loaded on to her horses (who totally knew what they were doing -- a good thing since we didn't), we not only got a chance to see young kids learning how to ride at a day camp her family is running on their farm, but Margo put a crown on my partner's head and the kids sang him "Happy Birthday!" What a riot.We rode through the fruit orchards, got a breathtaking view of the valley, and lunched by the river. Margo talked to us about the area and its history as we rode. My past experience with riding was on a trail riding tour in a national park and I'd been terrified, but this one made me feel very comfortable. The horses were gentle and obviously well trained. After our ride, Margo introduced us to a winery run by her friend in downtown Hood River, where we relaxed until our bus was supposed to come. When by some freak turn of events the bus (Greyhound) NEVER CAME, we called Margo desperate, and she found someone willing to drive us back to Portland so that we could catch our flight out the next day. What a lifesaver.Margo and Co. were all warm, fun, funny, and great hosts/guides. We're hoping to go back so that we can ride the PCT next time. Thank you!
