What a neat experience to see this famous natural attraction in one of the coolest places ever to visit. This is a must see on any trip to Yellowstone. Years and Years of nature preparing this awesome beauty for you to see and admire.
I'm not even that into archeology but this place was excellent. It was really cool seeing all the mammoths that fell into this hole. There's a fee for the tour, it was an hour long and there's a great store, which there's no fee to look around in.
It's truly mammoth in every aspect. To be in this part of our nation and not visit the Hot Springs Mammoth Site is to miss a significant element of ones visual and historical education.
Awesome place for all ages, friendly staff. If you are interested in fossils and history of area this is the place to see. If see in summer can view the dig at work. Well worth the admission fee can also become a member of site and help this nonprofit organization plus receive discount for joining. Hot Springs is a great community need to plan extra time to stay in area and enjoy the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota!
This place is so amazing! It is literally seeing history being revealed. I highly recommend paying a visit and seeing mammoths!
I have seen the brochures, and really had no idea what it would really be like. There was some construction, but we were routed around to the back. The gift shop offered a discount on purchases for the inconvenience. The tour is worth the money and the place is terrific once you are inside. They were working on the building and the dig site both, so it was noisy. We payed for the guided tour, it didn't take long (less than 30 minutes). On the tour we had our questions answered and were led through the dig sites. Interesting stop in the area, glad we took the time to view the sink hole where many mammoth and other animals have been discovered.
We have visited the Mammoth Site several times. It never ceases to amaze me. If you visit during the right time you can see people at work in the site. Everyone who has travelled with us has enjoyed this stop, kids and adults.
Incredible dig site. You actually tour the site and see the workers doing their thing trying to recover mammoths that are embedded in the earth many feet under ground level. Truly an amazing site to visit.
We went with our 7 year old grandson. We all really enjoyed it and learned a lot. The story of the discovery itself is interesting and the story of the pit itself was amazing. They have a great interactivity for the kids, don't let them miss it. Grandson absorbed and remembered a lot of it and told his class the whole story.
We stopped by the Mammoth Site while laying over on a long road trip. Much more interesting than I thought it would be, The guide was very knowledgable. Definitely recommend this site.
