The course is ok.. pretty well taken care of. Expensive for what you get and the staff think they are too busy to give you two seconds of there time. Too many courses around that are comparable and with much friendlier staff.
Played 2 rounds at Birkdale this week. Course is getting better after a couple years of neglect and what appears to be poor management. They are in the process of redoing the traps and there are some definite drainage issues. The greens are in pretty good shape and the front 9 definitely looks better than the back. The pro shop staff not overly friendly but the service and food at lunch time in the grill was terrific. From one day to the next the wonderful server remembered our drink and food orders from the previous day.I'd say give the place another year and it should get above average.
They keep the course in excellent shape. I believe it a very fair course for all levels. Fairways are pretty wide, but you might get punished you fall too far off into the rough. The greens are soft and large with a little bit of a "bowl" shape to help keep green shots from rolling off, but if you miss the green, those "bowl" edges can be tricky to navigate off the edge of the green. I really enjoy the course, but prefer the price to be about $20 cheaper for 18 holes.
My husband played at Birkdale Golf Club yesterday, 08/13/14. To begin with, they were getting the septic system serviced, so the initial smell was AWFUL. We could tell that at one point, the course was likely very nice, however, it is in need of serious renovations. The bunkers were basically just dirt/mud. The golf carts used to have GPS, but the systems have been taken out, leaving behind a gaping hole. There aren't any handles to hold on to if you are riding in the cart. The carts don't have coolers attached to keep your drinks/water cold. We expected more since the website boasts: "This 18-hole Arnold Palmer designed Championship golf course has been voted the “Best New Golf Course in North Carolina”, one of the “Top Five Public Courses in the State” and Charlotte's “Best Public Course”. " This course is no longer in it's prime. Don't waste your time or money.
I've played here 3 times so far and I'm looking forward to playing again next year. Good mix of average and difficult holes for an amateur. Fairways and greens were in decent shape every time I played. Good value for the money.
Didn't like the driving range (mats only) but did like the layout of the course designed by the Arnold Palmer Golf Design company.
Golf course is always in good shape. Nice layout. Beautiful neighborhood. Good pub to hang out in afterwards.
Played this course Saturday, April 5th, 2014.Driving range: Worn dated range balls, bare dirt to hit off of. Course Conditions: Tee Boxes have little to no grass on a majority of the boxes. Several boxes were missing the markers. Greens had been aerated recently. Lot's of weeds and bare spots within the greens making them very bumpy. Bermuda fairway's and rough still dormant, however there are lot's of bare spots and weeds as well. Pace of play was terrible. I played at 11 am, waited every shot. When we got to teh 6th tee, a par 3, there were 2 groups waiting to tee off and one on the green. The only time we saw a marshall was when we were on 13 tee box, who told us there was a group on #14 who had 2 open holes in front of them. He chuckled as he explained to us that he asked them to pick up the pace, "but didn't think it would help us out".
Was in Concord for work and wanted to play a round of golf in the Concord area since I am not in that area a lot with a chance to play. There are a ton of houses on this course. Arrived early and was able to get some shots and get on the course before my reservation time. There was some water on multiple holes. This coulde be a challenging course for all levels of golfers but not too challenging for golfers that don't play much.
So much potential but extremely poor execution. The staff is part of the problem as they share their miseries and very little enthusiasm. The pictures they have are from days of yore. Sad.
