Whilst the story of Mulka's Cave is a bit on the 'hairy' side... it was an amazing experience to enter the cave and see all of the indigenous art around the cave! IT was fascinating to see! Definitely worth the little bit further travel to see it!
tiny cave with some handprints. the bushwalk around it was more exciting. However, if you bring some appreciation for historical or ancient sites for what they are, you may 'breathe in' a seemingly timeless experience. According to the signs, this cave was a significant place for Noongar people in the region. no sensationalist tourist attraction
If you have gone all the wave out to Wave rock, Mulka Cave is defintly worth a visit, it about 17km from Wave rock and is a small cave, with Aboriginal hand printed artwork, and is among some of the oldest cave painting , so very interesting to see, though bring a torch cause the cave is dark inside and the hand prints are hard to see with out a light.
Didn't know about Mulka till this trip, cave andmarkings are worth a visit whilst at Wave rock. Easy walk from the caravan park
The surroundings are much more interesting than cave. I liked walking arround here. The cave there only some primitive paintings.
This whole area is an amazing walk back in time, you feel as though a dinosaur could just come wandering along at any moment. The walks up the rock, or around the base of the rock and over the back are second to none especially if it has rained in the past few weeks. I have been a few times and have never had an issue with crazy tourists, its a huge region but if a tour coach is there then there will be alot of people. In my experience though, it is mostly fairly quiet. While in the area, the local town has great hospitality especially the little supermarket called Hyden Trading Co, it even has a bottle shop inside of it, very cute and great helpful service right next to a lovely bakers.. the whole place is so worth the drive if you make it worth it....
After Wave Rocks...next stop - Mulka's cave.Fascinating history about an aboriginal man born with cross eyes.Sad story!Anyway, he left his hand prints and drawings all over the cave.History!Fascinating place!A must Visit in Hyden!Enjoy!See pics!
Not very well signed and we could only find one chamber...suppose to be three. Climb up the Humps for great views but it is steep.
We tossed up whether or not to bother going to the cave after waves rock but pleased we did. Although, we really left the visit until too late in the afternoon - about 4.20pm. The cave was pretty dark inside so vision was poor. However we did manage to photograph a few pieces of artwork which are pretty amazing. Worth a visit. Its about 18km beyond Wave Rock & most of the road is sealed except for a small gravel patch which is easily negotiable by any small car. Look out for masses of Gullahs & Green Parrots along the road. This attraction is FREE
An interesting historical Aboriginal site with paintings dating back thousands of years inside the cave, definitely worth going through the first cave to the 2nd.
