It is a fantastic hike from Abraão, the beach is super. Because it is a bit remote you will be reworded with an all most empty beach. On arriving and departure do not forget to visit the soldiers pond it is cold and refreshing.
For me it's the best place in Ilha Grande, it's not the most beautiful, i think Caxadaço, Lopes Mendes, Aventureiros more beautiful, but 2 rivers beach is perfect, very calm, never crowded (tourist boats don't go there), many tree shadows in the beach, have sites to visit, good for a pic-nic.This beach (and the village) is in the middle of two rivers, in the corners of the beach. In the left river has a big stone that you can climb and dive in the river waters (only in high tides). There is an small square with showers to "take a bath" after beach. Some villagers sells lunches, with some choices of dishes: chicken, beef or fish, fish is THE choice, because it's fresh, and with some fresh fruit juice (green coconut, "pitanga" a kind of cranberries) it's delicious. There is a little bar which sells snacks too and stay open all day long.In the right side has a research campus State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), which you can't enter only with rector's authorization. Behind has the prison ruins, where, in the recent past, many famous brazilians Political "Criminals" stay captives, and in the summer this prision lives up to its nickname "Hell's Cauldron", imagine stay captive in such beautiful place, locked in a very hot cell, with a paradisaic beach so near! it was a torture. It's NOT possible stay in 2 rivers village, in the end of the day all visitors must go out , only villagers and researchers are allowed to stay there, too bad.
After 2 and half hours (from Abrao) hiking up and down in beautiful tropical rain forest you will reach abandoned former prison for dangerous prisoners. The atmosphere is absolutely fabulous! Visit also the museum which will tell you more about the history of this village and the prison which was closed 20 years ago. And then you reach the beach - crystalic pure water and white sand. We were there almost alone. Fantastic place absolutely worth the sweating:).
It really is quite a trek from Abraao and then back again, though boats are available too. Great big, empty beach with great views and a bit of history within the town. Worth a visit if you're on the island, bar far the best beach on Ilha Grande
After walking 4 km all the way uphill and then another 4 km all the way downhill on a rather nice road you arrive to a small town where about 20 years ago there was a prison. The town is completely abandoned and its like nature took over the buildings, but they are still shaped well.Arriving in the village you will have to register, and deregister whenever you leave. We did not spent much time in the village, as there were also no people around except for the security at the check in. When we arrived on the beach there were few people. A long strech of beach and we felt like we were alone there. We did got worried a bit as we thought to take a boat back to the village, but there wasn't any boat back, so we could relax just for one hour before heading back as it was a long and hard walk plus you don't want to get stuck on the way in the dark, there is no traffic and no streetlights of any kind. Like I said a hard walk, but well worth it!Some tips for you:Bring a flashlight (Just in case)Leave early so you can enjoy fully at the beach without being back in timeTake water and something to eat as you wont find anything on the way there. Once on the beach there was one guy selling some softdrinks and water.Maybe some toiletpaper as well... Just in case... there is really nothing on the way....
Beautiful beach with a river on each end. We had lunch there, we ordered the lunch, which took about one hour. Very good food!!!
The village of Dois Rios is a tough 8 km hike across Ilha Grande. Near the halfway point summit on the road there is a trail (Trilha 14) that leads sharply downhill through bamboo groves and steep jungle forest. This trail reemerges on the road and cuts off the two long switchbacks. In Dois Rios the beach is a long curve of pure sand, clear calm ocean, and very few people. You may be able to buy mineral water, beer and a sandwich to enjoy your beach day. After lunch you should explore the small museum facing the dynamited ruins of the presidio, where political and criminal prisoners were incarcerated at various times between 1930 and 1994. After the last prisoners were transferred to Rio, the place was blown up and left as rubble. The townsite has that eerie quality in concert with abandonment despite the recent addition of a university research facility. There is a restaurant there serving comida caseiro. And you should sign in and out with the guard at the gate who will tell you with a knowing grin that there is no bus or taxi service here, so hit the road with enough water for the long hike back to Abraão. Watch for monkeys. There was a troop of browsing primates - black Howlers that are much bigger than capuchins - near the lower intersection of Trilha14 and the road. Get back to Abraão before sunset.
As you have already read, it is roughly 8.3 km one way from town to this beach. It took myself and 3 others just over two hours (all in our 20s and relatively fit). It was not terribly exhausting but the heat and humidity require a lot of water. Upon arriving to the beach we basically had it to ourselves. The only people that came were a few other hikers and people on private tours. We could leave our stuff in a spot under the shade and go into the water without having to worry. The reason I gave this place this four stars is because the water was not the nicest. That is putting it nicely. It was very murky, gritty and had a brownish tint to it. Mendes has a much nicer color but to be honest if this beach had the same color, it would be the better beach. Be prepared to hike back if you don't want to fork over at least 50 bucks for a boat to Mendes!
This beach is not reachable by boat so it was almost empty. The village itself has a small museum dedicated to the prison that used to be there but kind of feels like a ghost town. There is a small restaurant but no other services. Long but easy walk from Abraao
We loved the white sand beach with nobody! The two rivers run crossing the beach to reach sea allows us to bath in freshwater on the beach which is the reason that think think it is "magic"Don't go to eat in the only restaurant of the village. We had some stinky animal guts with patatos as it was the only dish available.
