Pico de Papagoia, or Parrot Peak, is almost 1000 meters High. Its a good hike from Abrao, through dense forest to the top where you get rewarded with excellent panorama views of Ilha Grande and the Costa Verde. Go to the top, you wont regret it!
This is a magic hike. To be in a proper tropical forest, listening to Arapongas & Bugio monkeys, is a unique experience. If you are fit and enjoy active holidays, love to explore and get to know interesting places and nature, this is the hike for you. It was great to hire a local guide. This way we could relax on the trail without the risk of getting lost. We went to view points that otherwise we wouldn't have known about, we walked on the ridge of the peak and on its base, and we listened to many interesting local stories and knowledge. Our awesome guide was Joao Pontes, a local guide. He even received us with bamboo sticks to save our knees on the way down. Needed. We had a fantastic day with Joao, he is great.
We left at 2:40am with a guide in order to make it to the top for sunrise. I was the most challenging and rewarding thing that I have ever done!! I was very difficult, the majority of the hike is uphill. It is physically and mentally challenged. Our guide was great he provided us with head flashlights so we could see in the dark. His name was Martan from Argentina. The view once you got to the top was incredible, also doing the tour in the dark and then in the light on the way back down, it was fascinating to see what you accomplished in the darkHighlight of my Trip to Brazil.
I went there with a friend. we missed the path so we walked for 2 hours in the wrong direction. anyway we headed back and were on the right path very late. but it was actually perfect cause the times they tell you 6-7 hours to get there and back is a lie!! if you are good by foot you do it in approximately 1.5 hour up and the same to get down. so as I said we got there late and had the place to ourself. it was very impressive!!un abrazogregor
Helloo! I'm ~30yr old female and hiked with a friend and 6 other local Brazilians with a guide - Martin. He will set you back 90reals but comes with expert knowledge on the hike, e.g. will tell you when at 50% of hike or 85% etc. He also knows the shortcut, has headlamps, bamboo walking poles and the GoPro pics and video at the end of it. (You have to see him later at the office with your USB or SD card) If you have done the Inca Trail, this is a shorter version, with perhaps more foot work required because of the terrain, but MUCH easier with air and at sea level!!!I cannot recommend the 3am start from Abraao enough. Obviously it starts in the pitch dark with insects, e.g. mosquitos and tarantulas (2 encounters on my hike) but you get to the top and see the sun creep through from within the clouds. You can see right to the edge of the world turn bright orange when everything else is still night time. You sit above the clouds. The first 10% of the trail is the hardest incline in bush then the next 50-70% is mixed inclinations sometimes climbing over tree roots or fallen logs. There are many rocks to climb from small to massive boulders (using rope) so it is recommended that you have some general level of fitness. The way up takes ~3.5hrs and descent takes ~1.5hrs. Tips:If you go during the day, it is super hot!If you have proper hiking shoes - wear it!Take insect repellent! Take plenty of water and snacks for the way up! Don't be fooled - people have just as much difficulty on the way down as it is on the way up as it requires much concentration! Happy hiking!
One of the most extreme things you can do on Ihla Grande if you ask me, The reword how ever is fantastic a 360* view of the island.Remember to bring plenty of snacks, and even more water.
5 hour hike (round trip). Take at least 1-1.5 liters of water per person if it is a warm day. I will not hire a guide as it is a super straight forward trail. Super recommended to have lunch at the top (you have the base or the actual summit to enjoy the scenery). Nice views of Abraoo village and some of the beaches. Try to return before it gets dark as the chances of getting lost will increase!!
The trail is very hard, but doable. Have a big breakfast and a good night sleep the night before because you will need loads of energy. Uphill is very steep sometimes you have to go on your fours. Choose a sunny day, because it can become dangerous if it rains. The view makes the trail worth doing it.
The best view of the island, hard trekking but this worth, takes 6 / 7 hours to go and come back. Brink a lot of water and attention if you are not going with a guide, if you dont have experience you can get lost.
This is a hike to the highest point in the island. It takes about 6 or 7 hours to do the return trip. Ideally you should hire a guide as you could get lost doing it on your own. One more tip, don't have a big night the day before as you will need to be in good shape especially for the first half which is mostly uphill...
