the details of history are here - not sugar coated. Kids may get a flavor of how complicated history can be - and how luck may determine the course of history.
This is a must see in Independence. Allow 2 to 3 hours. You may be tired but don't skip going downstairs. A couple of his cars are there. The traveling exhibits are usually very good, too, to keep you coming back.
This is a beautiful building with a lot to experience! There are interactive exhibits and many artifacts. I always go to a glass case with a letter from a soldier's mother, blaming Truman for her son's death. The personal side of a president is evident. I get teary-eyed every time, thinking about the pressures of each decision.
A mural by Thomas Hart Benton welcomes visitors into the Harry S Truman Library & Museum, where visitors can visit a recreation of the Oval Office, take a walk through time in the contexts of Truman's life and presidency, and experience interactive multi-media exhibits designed to drive home the complexities of this stirring time in American history. From the Berlin Airlift to the dropping of the Bomb to the desegregation of the military, visual exhibits and interactive displays bring to the modern visitor the intricacies of international diplomacy and home-grown authenticity. On rotating display are also intriguing exhibits such as Bess Truman's dresses and the Truman's cars, in addition to the fixed displays that mark such events as Truman's service in WWI and the attempted assassination on his life. Whether a Missourian or a visitor, this is a national treasure you don't want to miss!
History galore! Those who like history will like the this. One of the greatest presidents.....great place to explore more about the Truman's!
This a very nice museum with different media and types of exhibits. We learned so much about Harry S. Truman. What a great outing!
This museum is awesome. We unfortunately thought we could complete it in 5 hours. We were wrong. Definitely, plan on doing this as a whole day excursion especially if you love history. Their exhibits are really good and there is a lot of reading to go with them. A "must" place to stop for history buffs.
It doesn't matter what political party you support, this attraction is worth your time. This is American history. The artifacts provide a wonderful behind-the-scenes look of an American president. Your pass is good for a couple of days, so no need to rush through. This was well worth our time.
I knew this would be interesting, but I was surprised just how interesting and enlightening the exhibits were.Don't miss this!
Well first of all, I REALY LIKED HARRY. Second, we have never been to one that was not fascinating and well done. The information and displays about his presidency, WWII, the dropping of the two Nuclear Weapons, were teriffic. But the high lite of the museum was the fantastic large mock-up of the esterior and interior of the White House showing rooms with minature furniture, lights, etc.
