The place is beautiful, especially the mangrove when you arrive by boat, and the trees surrounding the property, which I took the liberty to explore, while waiting for our boater to return, but instead of the so many butterfly species announced in travel guides, you can see barely 5 or 6, and the place really looks neglected. Keep your 5$ for something better!
As others have said, you need to take a water taxi here (cost us $2 each both ways = $8 total) then $5 each to get in. There's a butterfly enclosure which is nice to have them flying around you, but there are only really 2 species and not a huge amount of them. Then there is a tank of brightly coloured frogs to look at too, and that's it. We didn't get a tour, as no one was around who spoke English, so we were done in 30 minutes and that was with a lot of strolling. Overall, a nice little place but be aware of what you get for your $18.
Don't waste your money. There is maybe 3-4 butterflies to see. The overall condition of the place is very poor and it costs $5 to enter a tiny dome with a few butterflies.
we had a lot of rainy days and were looking for some fun things to do. This is a very cute place and it's about a 10 minute boat ride from colon. The guy who owns it or works there was very sweet and gave us a tour. Butterfly hide out when it rains so best to go on a sunny day or expect to see about 4 butterfly. Very cool place that being said. Just make sure you have a taxi planned ahead of time to pick you up on your return.
Bocas Butterfly Garden is an early morning adventure on a sunny day. The Garden is located by the Bocas Marina, a 5 minute water taxi from town. You will be greeted and taken on a tour to experience the many stages and plant life that butterflies depend on to survive and populate. A great adventure for individuals or families. Ask you Receptionist or visit Reception at Hotel Parque.
If you choose for a relaxing moment on a short boat trip from town, the garden is the right place, nice job done around the farm and very interesting the butterflies breeding. congratulations.
