Charco Verde is a wonderful walk. You can see a natural park, with a lot of trees and plants and often a beautiful view. Ist a nice border of the lake. There a birds and also monkeys and a quietey to enjoy.
It was a very sunny day but already too late to climb one of the volcanos or to go to the waterfall. So we decided to go to this lagoon instead. I guess it was the best choice that we could make for the rest of that day. There was nearly no other tourist around, we had a very relaxing walk around the lagoon and due to the good weather, the views of Concepción where overwhelming!
It was very dry so the vegetation and butterflies weren't as abundant as reported. Take your bathing suit as there is a great place to swim. Hike is pretty easy.
Nice walk through the trees to a beautiful lake with views to the volcanoes. Its an easy walk and worth the effort.
My husband and I enjoyed our walk around Laguna Charco Verde- we saw many interesting types of plants and trees, monkeys, birds, butterflies and a bright green snake as well as good views of the volcano. It's an easy walk around the Laguna- no more than an hour at a very slow peaceful stroll pace to really enjoy the scenery and catch glimpses of wildlife. There are other trails that branch off but we did not explore those. We ate at a restaurant near the entrance to the park with a beautiful view right on the water- both our meals were pretty good but I LOVED my pasta dish.
I love it, but do not expect to see the laguna, seems that all guides inform you that it is not possible to walk close enough to see it because of clouds/fog.. and the way down is easier then up.
Wasn't sure what to expect at Charco Verde - turned out to be an interesting and beautiful place for a leisurely stroll. It was almost surreal at the entrance/exit with aerial sprinklers running to water the banana trees, while outdoor music piped in from the butterfly farm next door while viewing the volcano - a crazy and cool mix! (small entrance fee)
We had a guide take us on a hike here. There are lots of animals and beautiful plants and lots of butterflies. The trails are very nice, partially shaded, and would be nice to bike. I would definitely recommend this as a place to go if you are into nature and outdoor activities.
My wife and I visited in August 2014. We visited as part of our day tour to Ometepe Island. This is one one of the places I had targeted to visit. For us it was nice. The entrance fee was $1.50 USD per person to enter. We took a nice walk around the lagoon for about 45 minutes. We saw lots of howler monkeys very close. We did not see any caimans. After we finished walking we visited the butterfly enclosure. $5.00 USD per person to enter. As nice an exhibit as I have seen anywhere in the world. Many beautiful butterflys to see. This was a treat because we did not know this exhibit was there. All told we were here about 2 hours. It was a great stop and we really enjoyed it.
Large pond, or small lake, with an easy trail around (about 45 minutes). Taken with a guide that can ponit things out make it worth it.
