We were looking for a stop between Yellowstone and The Arches and were recommended this general area. The drive was spectacular thru the Flaming Gorge area.We camped at the Green River campground inside the Utah section of the NM. Campground was beautiful. We drove around the NM checking out the Petroglyphs, the old cottage etc. All nice but the highlight is obviously the fossil wall. I am not usually that interested in fossils but this structure was amazing. If your in the area don't miss it.
Driving around was interesting, but for me the highlight of my visit here was the dinosaur wall with its display of Jurassic bones. I've been on dinosaur digs, including a dig site of the Morrison Formation, with a time horizon of about 150 million years ago, that involved excavating Jurassic Period sauropods and therapods, some of which are represented here on the dinosaur wall.
I particularly enjoyed seeing all the different fossils in the specially designed fossil wall. It was also enjoyable driving down Cub Creek road right to the send to see where Josie Morris lived.
Wonderful drive east of Vernal, Utah and along the Green River. The park rangers were very nice and friendly. Take the drive past the visitors center to the old cabin and petroglyphs it will be well worth it.
Had a great trip to Dinosaur NM. The quarry wall is amazing to behold. Took three kids, ages 4, 7, and 10, and there was something for all of them to enjoy. Went out to Josie's cabin and had a good chance to talk about frontier life with the kids.
This is a beautiful place to visit and probably the reason a lot of people visit the area. The quarry is amazing and the guides have lots of interesting knowledge to share. The hiking is also great, but trails are not that well marked.
Dinosaur quarry is amazing. Fossil discovery trail is interesting. Visiting center has great exhibits and wasn't busy when we visited.
We were traveling from Moab to Wyoming & wanted to check out Dinosaur Nat'l Monument. We had stayed in Vernal & that was only 12 miles from it. 1st stop was the Quarry Visitors Center where you pay a fee of $10 or use the Senior Pass. Got some info, watched the movie & looked at the exhibits. Then we did the Ranger tour over to Quarry Exhibit Hall with Ranger Tiffany from Sheboygan, WI. She was very helpful & made the experience more interesting. The exhibit hall has a very interesting cliff wall with hundreds of bones partially visible. Next we did the Cub Creek Rd. Tour of the Tilted Rocks with 15 points of interested covered in a brochure. At Pt. 14, hubby hiked up to see additional petroglyphs. I could see the lizard & flute player petroglyphs from the parking lot but couldn't do the hike due to a sore knee. The last Pt. is the Jossie Bassett cabin & a 20 minute easy hike on the Box Canyon Trail. We spent half a day here but you could easily spend much more time in this area. There's another section of Dinosaur Nat'l Monument on the Colorado side that we didn't get to this trip. Hope we get back to finish what we started.
The newer, rebuilt building, is excellent. The hands-on display will enlighten young and old. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It wasn't very busy when we visited and we had as much time as we wanted to view the displays. A must see attraction if you are in the area.
This was a fantastic visit. Great interpretative exhibits, both prehistory and recent history interpreted at the site. Seems like two parks as straddles Utah and Colorado, with the west side (Utah) the geologic interpretation and fossil beds, while the east side (in Colorado) is more scenic vistas and higher terrain.
