Excellent ride on the motorcycle. We totally recommend Loveland Pass if you are in the area and the weather is good.
The view was gorgeous!! The air was very thin, but it was worth the view! The mountain peaks were capped and skiers were trying out the slopes.
We did this hike to the top during January 2013. Absolutely amazing experience. We were able to get to the top right as the sun started to set and it will be something that I will never forget. Not only is the view amazing, but all the work that it takes to get there is something that I will forever cherish.
The Continental Divide is worth the short drive from Denver. The road can be scary, but if the weather is clear, it's very passable.
You feel like you are on top of the world at this destination. My husband and I didn't want to leave. The beauty of the mountains and streams are unparalleled. We spent most of the day there exploring and taking pictures. The drive there on 70 is spectacular. So many picture opportunities. Every picture we took looked like an actual postcard. The snow capped mountains appear as a painting would. Don't miss this natural wonder.
Having lived in the area, I loved riding my bike up Loveland Pass. It is also a very nice scenic route. It will take more time than going through the tunnel, but the views are worth it. Some locals ski the pass at night and hitch hike back up the mountain during full moons.
If you are driving to Breckenridge or Keystone, taking the Loveland Pass is worth the extra 16 or so miles added to the trip. Look for signs for the Loveland pass on 70 and take the exit when directed. The drive is on a curvy road, with no guardrails, but the views are absolutely amazing. There are a few spots to pull over and get out of the car to appreciate the views. At the highest elevation, there is a parking area and trails where people can hike around the continental divide. Definitely worth the extra drive time. We took it each way because the views were so great.
We took this headed back to Denver instead of 70. The views are awesome and makes for some great pics. You ride by Arapohoe Basin Ski area and at the top is the Continental Divide at 11,990 feet. It is amazing to see how the water has cut through the canyons for thousands of years. We even saw a few Elk and a cow Moose 20 feet from the road.
Wonderful view and photo opportunity of the continental Divide. Be careful though if there is any weather, narrow winding roads. But on a clear day I would suggest to take this route.
Loveland pass is a great way to ditch the I70 highway scene and jump into some Colorado back country but it's not too far off the beaten path. Good hiking, sight seeing, and cool drive up the switchback road. May be a little nerve racking for some but it's pretty cool once you get up top. Bring a jacket left Denver it was 85 and sunny got to the pass 56 and cloudy.
