We visited the House with Chimeras at night so we were unable to see all the details. However what we could see showed the creative and quirky skills of the architect with the different chimeras and animals on the roof peering down at you. It is situated in a pleasant area near government offices and is easily reached. Well worth a detour to see it.
Some really odd guy must have built this place. I will take a look at the history of it later. But if you are in downtown Kiev on the main thoroughfare go take a look.
The house was built by a "cement baron" and famous architect. It is made entirely of concrete and the amazing details of the figures was thought at the time not to be possible in cement. So, in a way this was the ultimate "super bowl" of advertising a product. This is truly a world class historic building and well worth seeing. It is located within a government compound (including the President's residence) so access is not always available during this current period of strife (check first for times). The interior is also interesting but does require a reservation and fees. It is about halfway up one of Kiev's hills and there are many interesting and older structures to view in the area. Also one of the more expensive places to have a residence. I walked down the stairs to the Ivan Franko theatre where there is a small square and a statue recognizing one of Kiev's most famous comedians (with his small dog). If you are a "walkaholic" like me, you will certainly appreciate this building along with the others in the area as part of a day long adventure! Just plan to take rests along the way....or better yet, start at the top and work your way down.
When you look at it you may get scared as chimeras look a kind of weird. Same time I liked it and it firts the landscape and territory where it is located. Stop there by a chance.
The external facade of the house of Chimeras can of course be viewed any time, but the bizarre interiors and the official room where many important treaties have been signed by Ukraine presidents can be visited only upon appointment and fee. But its worthed.
The house with chimeras is certainly a unique attraction and worth checking out, however your experience there will depend on what security is like that day, as it is surrounded by government buildings. With that being said, the exterior is very neat to see and certainly unique.
Stayed in a hotel only 5 minutes walk away so decided to pop along and have a look for myself. What an amazing and beautiful building, adorned with all manner of animals and set in a beautiful street too. A must see!
If you like architecture then check this building out, its very beautifully done and nicely preserved. Close by go to the walking areas which lead you to a nice small park in the middle of the city.
The house with chimeras is certainly an interesting and unique attraction. It is well worth checking out s I have never seen anything like it before. It is worth bearing in mind that your visit will depend on what security is like that day, as it is surrounded by government buildings. I am not sure how you know what the access will be in advance - I got to see it on my second attempt.
This building is definitely worth visiting! The fantastical gargoyles, animals and other ornamentation on the outside are incredible on their own, but if you are lucky enough to get a tour of the inside of the building, you will be truly amazed at the imagination this architect had- simply phenomenal!
