Very nice art work, open to the public. It was an easy walk from my hotel a few blocks away. On a Saturday morning, there were few people walking around and through the church.
This cathedral was essentially next door to my hotel while visiting Kyiv for a month. I'm told it's actually a reconstruction of a much older cathedral. I can only say the reconstruction appears to have been very successful. It has a very nice souvenir shop staffed by very friendly and helpful ladies. The cathedral precinct is a quiet and peaceful haven from the bustling city - I can imagine just popping into the gardens on any day just to sit in the sun.
One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Kyiv, it is a functioning monastery that is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River close to the Saint Sophia Cathedral. The original cathedral was demolished by the Soviets in the 1930s, and it was reconstructed in 1999.
This was one of the churches we went in during our quick stay in Kiev. Definitely worth a peak inside- no cost to enter and quite a beautiful interior. Good introduction to Eastern church styles.
Entered this wonderful Catherderale during a service in one of the side chapels. The baroque interior is wonderful coupled with the liturgy of the service is a spiritual experience. I recommend a visit especialy if you have not visited a Christian Orthodox Cathederale before.
Its a monastery, its blue, it has golden roof and a lot of religious wallpaintings inside. If you like this kind of buildings Kiev is the place for you. The russian orthodox churches is amazingly well decorated with pictures of saints, biblical stories and gold. Go here and be stunned.
I saw this Cathedral as part of a walking tour. I could not believe it was relatively new to the city! Stunniing setting and wonderful to walk around and enter into the cathedral itself. the small grounds around the outside were lovely even at the early start of spring. Just a place to sit and be still for a moment.
Attended mass a Sunday morning. Didn't understand a word, but it was an incredibly beautiful experience. The choir singing was of national opera quality.
It is centrally located and an easy walk from most hotels and apartments in the center. Very ornate and beautiful inside and out. Still a working monastery. Had the opportunity to meet the niece of the sculptor who did the three statues near the entrance. She was a wealth of knowledge about the Cathedral and the statues! Do not miss this one.
I saw many churches during my star in Kyiv but none of them came close to the majesty of St. Michael's. I came here at least once a day for a week, I couldn't get enough of it. It is an active church so you will hear the priests chanting any see people praying. If possible you should go during a morning service. The sound of the choir, the incense the lighting...all perfect! This is the place that I will think about whenever I reminisce about Ukraine.
