Geelong waterfront is picturesque and we enjoyed walking around the waterfront area including the pier. The cost of parking however adds to the cost of the food and experience. We paid $2 to park in a side street while we had a quick snack for lunch. We paid another $2 to park while we enjoyed coffee on the pier. We got distracted as we spotted a ferris wheel and took a ride then returned to the pier to find that we had been fined $88 for a 20 minute overstay. It was 4.20pm and the parking became free at 5.30pm. There was ample parking available with many free car spaces available. This seemed like a revenue grab. We were tourists with interstate plates. So our advice is to skip Geelong and travel to other waterfront destinations where you don't get 'stung' with parking charges and can relax and spend your holiday $'s without risking a fine.
The pier was just OK nothing special . But...at Christmas time they have a Christmas tree with all these wonderful lights on it ..AMAZING .
Lovely and quiet during winter, only opens for a few nights of the week. We walked around early in the mornings.
Excellent walk from my hotel, with sensational views of the whole Geelong Waterfront and the surrounding attractions.
As a working class kid growing up in Geelong, fishing was standard practice back in the 60's and 70's, especially when the Couta and the Flathead were on the run. Now in my 50's, I am afraid that the restaurants at Cunningham Pier only cater for the wealthy business type who can afford what they like. Imagine my disgust when I was charged $12 for a jug of lemon soda. No need to say much more than small expensive meals no matter how exotic they look, sound and taste are out of my league.
It's a pier-big deal. The advantage is it's on the water. Eastern Beach Waterfront is parallel. If you're lucky there might be a cruise ship. Any advantage is negated by the adjoining cafés and restaurants. It's a pier-big deal!!
If you are walking around by all means walk out on it but there is nothing there and don't pay for parking as it will be a waste
Apart from CQ bar at the end of the pier, there is not much to see or do at Cunningham Pier! It's pretty much a car park.Althought, it does provide some good photo opportunties. But hardly an icon to visit in Geelong.Although a visit to the restaurants down the end is probably worthwhile.
I planned a special luncheon and we were sure underwhelmed. The view is poor, food average, service okay. I wouldn't go back, lots better to select and tries to survive off its location.
We were disappointed by the pier. It's mostly parking for cars and ends with restaurants that look uninviting and expensive. The promoted Fish and chips place was shut and it all looks a bit tired. It could be so much better with chairs and proper promenade replacing at least one parking side. Can't even buy a cup of coffee or ice cream. Not worth the walk out.
