My wife and I were told about the tour by another couple who'd declared themselves foodies, as we were and hurried emails were sent. Ducky got us on the tour for the following night and we were so happy she did.We were picked up by Ducky and Mr Smillie her TukTuk pilot and along with the couple we'd met the night before started the gastronomic journey.Drinks first to see the city scape from the highest bar in Phonm Penh. The actual food tour started with desert and took in pork crackling, locust/crickets, beetles, worms, local fruits and the best pork ribs ever and then finished with a meal at a locals restaurant. The food and company was awesome and eating bugs is a pleasure not a chore, I'm a Celebrity keep me in! Book it you'll love it.
We booked on the street food tour last night and had an amazing time! Travelling around Phnom Penh with Ducky is like travelling around with a good friend! We wet picked up from our hotel by Ducky and Mr Smiley (a lovely tuk tuk driver - very aptly named!) at 5pm and set off for our first stop - a cocktail at the tallest rooftop bar in PP. Afterwards we headed to a local market where we tried different fruits, insects (optional!) and yummy BBQ pork ribs - followed by dinner at a local restaurant (no tourists except us) with a great live band. Ducky is very knowledgeable about the area and the different foods and you can tell she loves living in Phnom Penh. There were 5 of us on the tour (including Ducky) and we all crammed into one tuk tuk Cambodian style - it was brilliant! Do this tour, you won't regret it!
Ducky arranged our pick-up from the hotel on Tuesday in a tuk-tuk driven by friendly Mr Smiley. A lovely lady, she has a fascinating story and emanates positive vibes. She took us to see the sunset on a roof bar before taking us to sample delicious desserts that we would otherwise have never sampled in the market. Then off to try some insects which were surprisingly tasty and some exciting fruit. Then across the road for the best ribs in town. So good in fact, we went there again this evening! The bbq was delicious - Ducky ordered several dishes for us all to try and ensured everyone was comfortable with everything, explaining all the dishes. It was great seeing her interact with the locals who are very fond of her. Ducky even emailed us with recommendations for good eats in Siem Reap which is our next stop. Thanks for such a wonderful experience, Ducky! Wish you all the best.
Hi there,Thank you so much for your review. I am so sorry you missed out on the tour however my house was broken into that day (while I was in the house) and my laptop, among other things, was stolen. I was really quite shaken as you can imagine and I had no laptop or access to my emails to contact you. The only way I thought I could was to leave a message for you at the hotel. Again please accept my apologies and I hope to catch up if you ever swing through town again.Safe travels,Ducky
We did the Phnom Penh Roving Dinner and I can highly recommend it. The thing I liked most was that by the time it was finished we felt we had been given a glimpse into multiple different facets of the Cambodian food scene. One minute we were sipping cocktails with the uber rich, the next we were breaking french bread with ex-pats, the next we were with our hands amongst the locals. The tour included stops at four different locations, each contrasting to the previous. The tour guide was brilliant, going beyond discussions about food to talk about culture, politics, local attractions and more. No request was too much effort and no question too silly.I was pleasantly surprised to see that all alcohol was included. I wasn't sure when I booked but we had some really nice wines, cocktails and local beers over the course of the tour. This is a great tour, especially if you're only in town for one night. It really allowed us to experience so much more than we could ever have on our own in the same period of time.
I booked last minute with the "roving dinners" tour. What a great way to spend an evening in Phnom Penh. Ducky is a fantastic hostess and it seems like everywhere she goes, people are happy to see her. Even if you're not that crazy about food (who isn't) you can still experience PP like a local, make friends, bounce ideas off other travelers, and just enjoy yourself. I would have never found out about any of these places on my own. Thank you, Ducky and Mr. Smiley!
My wife and I and 20 yr old son got picked up in the tuktuks met up with a couple of other Aussie lads on the tour same age as our son so that was an added bonus. Off we went to the Eclipse Bar for a round of warm up cocktails or beers and then off to do the rounds of the food market sampling a lot of the local food. Ducky was very informative and made the tour so much more interesting and a lot of fun. The bbq dinner that followed was fantastic and had all the hallmarks of turning into a very big night out. The fact that Ducky is an Aussie chick and knows the ins and outs of Phnom Penh so well made it that much more interesting.
We did the roving dinner (it was our honeymoon) with Ducky, and it was FANTASTIC! We are both avid foodies, and love trying new and interesting food in cool and unique places. This tour certainly delivered. From meeting us at the hotel, introducing us to Phnom Penh during drinks overlooking the sun setting over the city; to having our three course meal across three different restaurants around the city! This tour is a must for any food lovers. Ducky is a pleasure to dine and travel the town with, knows the staff and chefs personally, and ensures that you have a memorable and delightful evening. We thoroughly recommend this tour (and any other tours she does, if you have time!). Ducky also took the time to give us recommendations for the other dinners we were in Phnom Penh, all of which were excellent (especially "The Common Tiger" and "Romdang"). Thanks Ducky :)
Exciting foods to try, lots of laughs, full bellies and the most fun night in PP ever. Definitely a night out with super Ducky should be #1 on your itinerary! She's a hoot and an amass of local knowledge. Also never thought I'd enjoy an optional cricket. Thanks from the kiwis x
What a lovely experience hanging out with Duckie and her gang of tuk tuk drivers for the night, tasting and seeing things that I would have never been able to do alone. From a roof top bar with views across Phnom Penh, to a local market teeming with beautiful sights and smells, and then to a BBQ restaurant. I even tried the bugs, but you don't have to if you don't want to. Duckie was so friendly and generous with her information about Cambodian food and life. This tour is so much fun and great value for money. Definitely book it in!
