Old orchard is a fun place. It's busy 3 months out of the year and the easy of the year it's really quiet. it's an 80s style beach town and has 7 miles of beautiful beach!
It's such a great place in the morning only though with high tide and high waves so kids can use there boogie boards, but in the afternoon, the water has little to no waves. Tip for coming: come early for a good spot, and come during the morning.
This beach (south side at least) is clean, has great sand and at low tide has plenty of room for all activities; water can be pretty cold though.
Last summer our family spent a week at Old Orchard Beach in the great state of Maine. Full of History. Nostalgia and fun. Water was cool but not freezing. Pier was Rustic but interesting. .Food was good. Great New England vacation spot.
Our mom used to take us down to Old Orchard Beach when we were teenagers back in the 1970's almost every summer. They were some of the best summer trips we ever took. The Pier, the small amusement park and of course, the beach itself offered endless opportunites for summer fun.As adults, we returned and were pleasantly surprised that it hadn't changed much. The Pier, the primary landmark of OOB, was apparently detroyed by a bad storm, rebuilt then burned down and rebuilt again by a private company after our last visit in the 1970's. It's no longer the open air shopping venue that featured local artisans and vendors but a bar set out over the water. It held no interest for us in its present incarnation but I'm glad it was rebuilt. The beach just wouldn't have seemed right without it.The beach is actually nicer than we remembered it, thanks to a dune conservation program started by the local Boy Scout troup again, after our last visit. We were there just as the off season began (after Labour Day) so lodging was incredibly affordable, under $100/night for an ocean front kitchenette.Restaurant choices were limited, however. Many close during the off season but there was enough choice that we were satisfied.
The boardwalk and amusement park in the background and the kids loving the waves to boogie board, we had a great day! Water is too cold for me though.
Pier is impressive, expansive beach, amusement park and fireworks weekly during the summer months. Many restaurants within walking distance from the beach. Live bands play at several restaurants overlooking the ocean. Trolley car available.
Great beach for walking as well as sunbathing. Love it any time of the year. Love finding sand dollars!
We've been going here every August for quite sometime. It's a Great get away and always a blast. The beach is wonderful and we've been lucky to get awesome weather most everytime. There is lots to do in the area,so we stay right around the beach the whole time we're there. And enjoy all of OOB attractions and restaurants. We highly Recommend it here !!!
One of the best beaches in New England. 7 miles of soft sand. Waves, and sun. Bars, and shops. If you love to walk the beach, this is the beach for you.
