A mix of old and new. Most of the old machines were either fortune machines or watch-me dioramas. Not many out-of-order, which was nice. Reminded me of the old Mechanical Caberet in London. It had works by contemporary artists with more interactive machines. It's a good twenty minute stop as you walk Fisherman's Wharf.
Went with my teenage daughter. She enjoyed it so much she actually gave up shopping so we could stay longer. Bring your quarters not all the change machines worked
If you're interested, or your children are interested in video games, head down here to see the originals! mechanical/electromechanical and some early video games. No entrance fee is great, and games are reasonably priced.
This place is super-cool! Shows you some of the bizarre things that used to entertain people. Kids will enjoy playing video games their parents used to play.
This was a highlight for our trip. It is cool, funky, bizarre, and fun. I would go again in a heartbeat. I loved the mix of antique coin operated machines and newer (1980's) video games. Some of the antique coin op machines are 100 years old! And there are dozens of machines to look at. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, THIS IS IT!!!
What a fun, creepy place! A place where both dreams and nightmares come from! By far, my favorite place in SF. Bring lots of quarters and check out "the Opium Den."
This was one of my favorite attractions in San Fran. There is something unique about all the old arcarde games gathered in one place. I can imaging people back in the 1930's getting their fortune told, or looking at a recreation of the tower of London. Its also great to be able to use those machinesIts free it, but you'll probably spend a few dollars on quarters to make the machines work - which is well worth it.
