My camera club had a wonderful opportunity to photograph this theater. We paid a small fee and had a private afternoon to run around and photograph the mirrors, crystal chandeliers and stairs. Normally, I don't think you can bring your tripods but since it was a private event, we were able to use them, and took wonderful photos. If you ever have chance to tour this building, jump on it!
Beautiful theater. Really something to see, whether for an event or on a tour. Visited one time for a concert. Seats were average theater chairs but legroom was plentiful. Theater was clean. We purchased our concert tickets in person at their box office. Friendly staff member took care of us and gave us a lot of her time in helping us select seats to purchase. We hope to take their tour next visit to the Joliet, IL area.
We have been here several times for concert, but most recent in December. This venue is a historical land mark and the inside is really something to see! It is a true throw back to the way theators use to be designed! They did an amazing renovation!
My daughter had her wedding reception there this past weekend and we were all in awe of how beautiful the building was. There were many options of how to utilize the building: she choose to have her cocktail hour on the stage, then the guests were asked to take a seat in the theater and a short slide show of the bride and groom was shown on the "big screen". After that, all the guests were seated and the bridal party was announced from the balcony as they entered the reception from one of the two spiral staircases. The decor is so ornate that it felt like such a glamorous event. The primary purpose and the managements priority and interest is the arts- shows, concerts and entertainment. It is not easy to plan a banquet there- all of the vendors must be brought in (although they do have a preferred list) They do not have full kitchen facilities which makes dinner for 200 (or more) a challenge, but it can be done, and done well. Another nice touch was displaying the bride and grooms name on the theater marquis.
"The Duchess" Is the largest Austrian Crystal Chandelier in the United States. Awesome to see !! This Performing Arts Palace Has many different nationally known performers annually.
There is absolutely no way to adequately describe The Rialto. Pictures do not do it justice. Built in 1926, it was lovingly restored in the 80's and with the help of incredibly dedicated volunteers, it is still the most beautiful building I have ever seen. I love old theaters and have toured many. The Rialto tops them all. Take the tour. There really is not any other way to understand how precious the building and its history are to Joliet. When Liberace came to perform, he went out onto the Rotunda balcony, opened his arms wide and proclaimed, "Finally, a Theater to match my wardrobe!". You will only see architecture and detail this fine in the old buildings of Italy and France. This is a the closest you can get without leaving the US. There is not an obstructed view in the house. If you have never been, make a point to add this to your list of special places to visit, whether it be for a tour or to enjoy a show.
First time to visit this theatre. It's elegant and classic to let me enjoy a show in Joliet. Sure that I will come again when I stay in Chicago.
Having been born and raised in Chicago land area, I left the Rialto Square Theatre last night wondering, why have I not been here sooner? This theatre is so special, you have to experience it at least once, you will be amazed! The architecture is breath taking, the staff were extremely friendly, informative, and helpful. The prices are very reasonable, there is easy in and out access with lots of parking all around. A must experience !
We have attended this lovely theater many times, and just went to see Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas Spectacular here! We sat back pretty far, but there are no bad seats in this theater. They sell pop and alcohol there, and fare like cookies and cakes. Space is utilized well for autograph sessions, and the floors sparkle with cleanliness. Memberships are available for various events, and there is an elevator open to the public should there be a patron who cannot handle stairs. Beautiful lighting, marble walls and fixtures. Park in city parking garage two blocks away. It's a gem in an old city on the river!
Saw Yakov Smirnoff perform here September 27.I was just stunned by all the ornate and elaborate decoration that went into this old theatre. And it looks like they still employ the original ushers! LOL How cute.Clean, no musty "old building" smells to be had here.I urge you to take in a show here whenever you get the chance.
