I have been coming to this place. I can only speak for a few things:Food: their smoky salsa is outstanding, and their mini tacos are the best (only thing I have ordered in the last 20 years lol)Service: its a hit and miss. It can get very very crowded and they don't have enough people working. The girls do as much as they can but it can get trickyEnvironment: you will not be bored, crowds vary from a day to the next, from summer to winter...as much as the bands...but you will be entertained.Bathroom: ONLY 2 stalls, patheticits an icon of the beach city and geat for a late summer afternoon beer....with or without kids
We stopped by for a mid-afternoon appetizer and drink. Weather was perfect so we sat outside. Had a few draft beers and the crispy asparagus (very good) and chicken quesadillas (average). Friendly waitress who answered our questions about the menu and the area. It overlooks the train (Coaster and Amtrak) which run about every 15 min but we really didn't notice much.
I was looking for some live music, a glass of wine, and something to snack on. While the food was good, the atmosphere was LOUD and seemed to be a gathering place for the older, single and looking crowd.
Great happy hour on Friday with music! Age is 40's - mid 50's. They serve a mild salsa and chips! Get there early (4pm) if u want seating. There are two fire pits too! Super cute and close to some other bars if you want to change it up. Close to the beach too! Good place to hang out and relax.
Walking around downtown Carlsbad and heard the live music. The band was playing on the outside patio and was quite good and very entertaining. Billy Watson....we bought a cd. Ice cold beer and good Mexican food with live music... Doesn't get much better than that!
Tasty choices (loved the fajitas & the lime salad!), great happy hour & fun live music. Good cold beer on tap & good fresh food - close to our hotel, but I would've walked further to dine here. Not sure why the reviews are not better here...we really enjoyed the food and service so are rating it accordingly with 5 stars! Try it, you won't be disappointed!
We ate outside on a pleasant afternoon. We felt like we were the unwanted guests at a party. It was very difficult to get service (aside from the table busser, he was very attentive). And, most DISGUSTING--all the waitstaff insisted on placing their fingers on the rims of the glasses as they were serving drinks. Even when refilling from a pitcher, they just couldn't keep their fingers off the rims. Yuck!
My feeling is that if you're in a Mexican restaurant, you should be able to get a really good margarita. It's all in the mix. This particular mix was way too sweet for my husband and myself. Chips and salsa was tasty but guacamole was mediocre. The dish it was served in was filled with shredded lettuce hidden under the guacamole to give the illusion of a bigger portion, kinda skimpy.
Their salsa alone is worth the trip! Their tacos and fajitas are pretty great too! My grandpa loves to go here on karaoke nights. A lot of people come for the great variety of tequilas. The service varies over the years and can largely depend on what time of day and what day you are there. Popular nights are not known for great service! I think it's ideal around lunch time though!
Average place. Had to wait 10 minutes before someone actually acknowledged us. Food was good and when we did get a waitress she was very attentive.
