We didn't anticipate the long walk until we actually reached the water, but my Lord was it worth it! Would recommend to anyone!
Something of everything in Queensland: beautiful waterfalls, hikes, quaint shops, great coffee, interesting exhibits.
A turn off the main road at Behana Gorge Road takes you to a small car park. The sign says "3.2 KM walk with slight incline at the end. That is SOOOO understated!. The walk is along a concreted path fit for cars but the undulating inclines are wicked. Only good walkers should attempt this. At the end you are blessed with the most amazing waterfalls, swimming holes and scenery. We also went to Mosman Gorge and Behana puts that to shame. We saw snakes, wallabies and plenty of other wildlife too.
A friend and I went here for a leisurely walk! Was SO worth the walk and the climb down the water was fresh! The scenery was beautiful!! There was march files when we went but they didnt bother us too much! A must have when going here is good walking shoes, sun screen and probably something to eat because there isnt any shops or anything near by! One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! Beware the walk is pretty long and there are hills and rocks that you will need to climb down if you want to go swimming!
It's not an easy place to find, but it's worth the effort to do so. Go south of Cairns, turn right onto Behana Gorge Road and simply drive to the end. You'll end up at a pump station with an asphalt path and pipeline leading away from it. Just follow the path. It's quite steep in some places and you need to be reasonably fit as it is about a 3.5km walk in. Having said that there were people of all ages and all types of footwear encountered along the way. It is a steep climb down to the waterhole at the end, but once you are there you will stay for hours. Just beautiful. Cold, clear and refreshing. The walk back feels down hill although there are still a couple of good inclines to cover. Worth the effort.
It's a bit of a trip, but significantly better than Crystal Cascades (larger, more scenic, quieter), and light years ahead of that tourist trap Mossman Gorge!! Uphill 2km walk in, but the swim at the waterfall a the top make it all worthwhile. Nice drive there too.
If you love walks with lots of hills. 3.5km of them will get that off your Wishlist. The waterfall was nice. The swim and dives off the cliff fantastic... The March flies sucked. Overall, did it. Wouldn't do it twice. There are plenty nicer walks in cairns worth doing again.
Beautiful spot for a walk. Not too steep or stressful with plenty of spots to cool off on the way. Great anytime of the day
A lovely ( although strenuous walk) to the top of the gorge. It can take up to 50/60 minutes each way with a few big hills. The path is concrete so an easy walk. Most fitness levels could do it.
Well worth the walk, Just bring a bottle of water; its an easy walk thats well with the view & the awesome swim once you arrive. (BRING A WATERPROOF CAMERA!!!)
