The Iron Pagoda is much more beautiful in reality than in the photos. There is also a great park. If you are in Kaifeng, you just have to see the Iron Pagoda, I think it's almost like a symbol of the city.
It's brick AND it's leaning! In any event, the pagoda is worth seeing, as are the water lilies throughout the park. There's a legend that you should walk clockwise around the pagoda to gain good fortune, so we did just that. It's one of the attractions in Kaifeng, and worth a short visit, although I'd avoid the over-priced shop selling Chinese embroideries and other "handicrafts."
Tie Ta is a pleasant stroll through gardens with statuary, a temple and along a small river. The pagoda itself is an 1000 year old structure built as a worship focus for Buddhists. Climbing the pagoda is no longer allowed for safety reasons.
Adjacent to Henan University old campus (but you cannot enter from the campus). Its impressive in that it was built around 900 AD (I think) and its still there. You can climb to the top (very narrow and hot in summer) and get a good view across Henan University campus and the city of Kaifeng (IF the air pollution is not too bad that day!). Pleasant gardens and lilly ponds. Its not iron, but its glazed brick gives it that appearance.
