I hired Marvel Tours Cali (Marveltourscali.com) for a City tour while in Cali. My bilingual guide, Oscar, was excellent. He took me to the Mirador Sebastian Belalcazar. From this location, you have a beautiful view of Cali and a great statue of historical significance. I would highly recommend stopping by Mirador Sebastian Belalcazar for the view and the history.
During my stay in Cali I was located in Barrio San Antonio which is the oldest neighborhood in Cali. It is unique because it is comprised of old homes in colonial style. Located at the top of San Antonio, on a hill, is the Iglesia de San Antonio which is the second oldest church in Cali. There you can find the path to Mirador Sebastian Belalcazar. The Viewpoint is named after the one of the founders of Santiago de Cali. There you view the newest part of Cali and the Cerro de Tres Cruces (Hill of Three Crosses). It is great exercise to walk through San Antonio and the park of San Antonio crossing the river and then a major to walk up more steps until you the reach the top of this viewpoint. However, taking a taxi to the top would be easy and isn't expensive depending on where you are staying in Cali. I enjoyed walking the Barrio San Antonio in combination with making it to the top of this viewpoint. It is about 40 minutes walking if you are in good shape or an hour in bad shape like myself. I consider this the second best view of Cali. Happy Travels!!!
The Statue of Belalcazar offers a great place to view the city during the day or evenings. On weekends be prepared for much noise (música de salsa) and Street vendors. During Christmas many locals stop to relax and take family pics with relatives visitng from other countries. Buying roasted corn cobs is the most traditional way of spending a few hours there as people climb out of their cars to enjoy the breeze of wind often felt in the evenings.
