It is a short drive to Coral Pink Sand Dunes. It is approximately 20 miles north of Kanab on highway 89. The drive getting to the Sand Dunes is beautiful, driving through the Red Cliffs of Southern Utah. You will turn left off 89 to Coral Pink Sand Dunes. When arriving at the Dunes you will find large coral pink sand dunes that are very unusual and beautiful. There is a visitorcenter there. It is a nice way to spend a few hours seeing the beauty of Southern Utah.
Not your average 'sand dunes' .. wind swept natural art is spectacular. Some wooden walkways and many beautiful viewsThe sand color is unique and so unusual to an easterner.
Add a half hour to your trip between Bryce/Zion and Kanab and see this geological surprise. Even if you don't have time to wander on the dunes, the sight of the sand formations is fascinating. A beach with no sea. There is a ranger station, but when we were there it said no one was on duty so please leave your admission fee in the box. If one was so inclined, they could go in without paying. Small picnic area.
Take a walk on these gorgeous pink sand dunes. Plenty of parking and room for everyone. The visitors center was closed for the holidays when we visited, but I would come back here. There wasn't anyone else around when we came, but that only added to the remote feel. Saw the little burrow holes.
This park is really great if you're taking an ATV - not only is there the main park area, accessed through the visitor's center, there is a wealth of other space that falls under the umbrella of the "Sand Dunes" that is only accessible to high-clearance, 4WD vehicles/off-road vehicles. Whether you're within the bounds of the park or a bit outside of them, your best bet for a fun day is to rent some ATVs and really have at it. I am personally much more of a hiker than the type of person who off-roads in the great outdoors, but you are really missing out if you don't check out some off-the-road action at this park.
Surreal, Star Wars-like sand dunes with beautiful vistas everywhere. The ranger will rent you a sand sled for $25, and it beats snow sledding any day of the week - soft, fast, so so fun. Other folks were sand boarding, and that looked like a blast too. I highly recommend this state park just for the vistas, but throw in sand sledding and it becomes one of our best park experiences. I wisely brought goggles for my kids to keep sand out of their eyes as it whips around at the top of the dunes. I definitely recommend some eye protection though others were out there without it.I saw people off-roading in ATVs, and I generally don't love parks that have a lot of ATV's, but maybe because it was November, there weren't a lot of people there, and the ATV action wasn't overwhelming. It actually looked like a lot of fun. I can't say what it looks like during a more busy season though, and I do think it would be annoying if there were a lot of ATVs buzzing around you.
Amazing scenery, be prepared to get sand everywhere but it is really fun. Small to huge sand dunes create a magical landscape. My kids brought cardboard to ride down the hills but it didn't quite work possibly try a plastic toboggan?
Middle of no where, beautiful place. Very colorful. spend an hour or two just walking around. Just 7 dollars.
This is a must. Your pictures will look as though you went to Mars. I recommend adding this to an itinerary of quick trips, such as a multi-stop day trip. You can explore the Sand Dunes in just about 2 or 3 hours. I wanted to rent an ATV but the company that rents them was closed for the season (they're opened late March to late October). Watch out for deer late in the afternoon.
I love driving this route down to AZ and past the sign several times to the sand dunes and decided that I needed to check them out. It was worth the stop for sure.
