I wouldn’t call myself a history buff, but I do enjoy learning interesting facts that have occurred throughout our history. Well, I stumbled upon Fort Defiance and I glad I did. I got to spend about an hour here, but I wish I had more time to stay longer. You should make this a place to visit.
My husband and I visited Fort Defiance to gain more knowledge and better understanding of events of the Civil War. The brief film was helpful and the walking tour was interesting. Prior to our visit, I did not know what an "earthworks fort" actually was--- now I know. William, he historian, was very helpful. One negative, I'll mention was that the outdoor pathway map was a bit confusing.
Reading the reviews before going to visit the center I was expecting a lot. However I was truly disappointed in the place. This would be worth the visit when they host a civil war reenactment. The museum was tiny with reading materials, few objects to look at and a film to watch. I did like how this museum explained how African Americans participated in the civil war. This is often neglected in many civil war museums. There was a nice winding walking trail with not much to look at but a few cannons. It would be a nice place to have a picnic. However at the end of the trail there was no signs of where to go next. it just ended in a neighborhood but thankful the employee had told us the directions to get back to the museum.
A really beautiful place to walk and even have a picnic while learning the history of this place. The inside museum was really cool and informative. Another must do when in Clarksville. We really enjoyed it.
Very nice displays, and video, the walking trails are also very nice. If you are new to Clarksville, or just visiting, you should take a few hours and explore this place!!
A lot of park for not a big investment. The grounds are easily traversed in about a half an hour, the path is not wheelchair friendly at all, and you have to walk streets for part of it.The inside museum is great. With a movie and several interactive features. Not the great place for little children, and I wish there was more to the park.
If you are a fort buff, you might like this. really just a small park for the average joe. I live in Clarksville and don't go here.
The old fort has a couple of cannons and was an earthen fort. We did not go in the interpretive building as it was near closing.
Nice civil war place to see a lot of history. Good walk if you have kids and a nice view of the city
Small original earthworks of a fort over looking the river. Not much ever happened here and that is why it remained, untouched, until it was re-discovered and preserved.
