We have often visited parks such as this and until you go on a tour with a guide like Gy you don't realise just how much you are missing. From the time i first contacted Gy he was super helping - gathering information to help us decide which guided walk would most meet our needs.Due to the high temperatures at the time we decided on a river and gorge walk. You really do believe you have the park to yourself - within 100 m of us leaving the crowds we did not see another person until we returned approx 5 hours later with Gy pointing out all sorts of things we would have simply walked past none the wiser. The walk was fairly easy - at an easy pace with stops to look at views, wildlife, plants, berries, etc. We had a lovely picnic at the bottom of the gorge by the river which Gy supplied.I would highly recommend - you really don't notice what you don't see,,,
Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenage children visited Clearwater en route to Whistler/Vancouver earlier this month and had arranged a half day morning hike prior to departing for BC with Gy. We all enjoyed ourselves very much and it has stimulated our interest in doing more hiking on our return home. Gy was an informative guide with lots of knowledge of the flora and fauna of the park. What is unusual with Discover Wells Gray is Gy's ability to provide an individual approach to visitors and to tailor the experience to their needs. Unlike others providing reviews we did not see a bear but after our morning we will know what to do if we come across one!A tip, if ever in Clearwater you must also stop by the Strawberry Moose Snackery for its excellent coffee and cakes.
my Daughter and I booked Gy for 7 hours and I must say it was well worth the money. Even though half the park was closed off due to snow!, fallen trees and Bridge maintenance, Gy filled the time more than sufficiently. I'm quite a waterfall groupie, so we had a great walk to Moul Falls - not just to the top but also right down to the base, visited Spahats, Dawson and Helmcken Falls, and had a lovely walk to an abandoned homestead, where we had an ample picnic provided (- of course had to eat it all to save Gy having to carry it back to the car!) All in all a great day out and informative on the history of the park, and on the flora and fauna if you wanted. Thanks Gy.
Our family had a great morning with Gy learning about the trees and berries and about the park itself. Our teenage daughters loved walking to a waterfall, getting soaked walking behind it accompanied by shrieks of laughter. Gy adapted his plans to our family which made it feel even more special. The snacks at a picnic table were a nice touch- we didn't realise that we we hungry but there was a tasty selection of snacks which were perfect after some fresh air and a walk. Gy also gave us some good ideas for the best way to spend the rest of our time here. A lovely peaceful park, great guide- if you are in the area highly recommended to add something special to your visit
Gy is a very friendly person who took us to a guided hike to Helmcken Canyon and the Gatling Gorge. He is very knowledgeable and it is great fun to spend a day with him. We learned a lot. I really recommend doing a hike/walk with him if you want to see and learn a bit more of the park.
We spent the day with Gy and had a fantastic time. The day flew by as Gy shared his knowledge of the park and showed us many spectacular spots. It was a wonderful experience customized to what we wanted to see most. We highly recommend this guided tour. Wells Grey is a truly special place not to be missed.
We had a half day with Gy in Wells Gray. Went somewhere (Silver Tip Falls) we would not have gone on our own and learnt lots in the process about berries, plants wildlife, geology etc. Excellent snacks provided too
We had a great day out with Gy who took us round all the waterfalls and we got some special views of them that we would never have found on our own. Great lunch and our son really enjoyed learning all about the nature all around us. Wells Gray is a beautiful spot and really quiet away from the main waterfalls.
A hike with Gy should not be missed on any visit to Wells Gray. He has an amazing breadth of knowledge of the flora and fauna and history of the park. We were initially a little apprehensive of the nature of trails in this park but Gy selected an easy walk which was most enjoyable and allowed us to see some incredible waterfalls and an original settlers cabin.Lunch was taken in a beautiful setting by one of the waterfalls. Our trip, being in spring was rewarded with several bear sightings and Gy parked on the roadside which allowed some really close but safe photographs. Many thanks Gy for your patience with a couple of oldies.Mike and Joan, UK
After reading the reviews on here I contacted Gy to book a guided walk. Gy took care to choose a nice easy and very pleasant walk for us two middle aged folk who are out of shape these days! We visited the beautiful Dawson Falls and had a lovely time walking along a river until we got to an abandoned homestead. There was plenty of time to take pictures and just stand and take in the sheer beauty of the park.Gy then took us to the lookout tower on Green Mountain and even gave my husband some great photography tips. We had some delicious banana loaf, homebaked by Gy's wife while at the lookout. On our way back to our lodgings we spotted a bear of which we were able to take some pics!Gy has a huge knowledge and passion of the Wells Gray area and this is imparted to his guests, I would highly recommend anyone visiting this park to take the time to go on a guided tour with Gy, you will learn so much as we did! He also gave us info on other places of interest to visit while we were in the park. We saw things we would otherwise have missed had we not taken the tour. My aim now is to getter fitter and revisit BC and do a day hike! Thanks Gy - you have given us the inspiration to get out and take up walking again after 20 years!!Geoff and Jeannette. :-)
