We ended up staying 3 days as there was so much to see. We enjoyed all the Falls the most but the view from Green Mountain was also lovely. There are endless Hiking Trails. The little trek out to the Ray Farm and Mineral Springs was very interesting. If you visit the Park, it would be best enjoyed in nice weather. While we didn't see any wild life, we found countless varieties of wild mushrooms which I enjoy photographing. I couldn't be happier with my choice of Destination for a little Holiday which was an easy drive up from the Coast.
A beautiful park which deserves to be visited as Jasper and Banff. Nice stop between Vancouver and the most famous Rockies parks
Because of our fairly tight touring schedule, we only had one day exploring the park and it's really not enough, but we saw as much as we could and had a great day.Highlights included Osprey lookout which is quite a hike to the top, Dawson Falls, Helmcken falls and the Green Mountain Lookout Tower. My own favourite was the short hike around Ray Farm which was really interesting. I would say you need at least a couple of days and don't forget the mozzie spray!! When we were there it was a wet, grey day but the bugs were still out in force!!
Of course the Dawson falls and the Helmcken falls should be visited in this park. Also the smaller ones are great to see. Do also the hike at Rays cabin (towards the hotsprings). We have seen a couple of black bears. Be aware of the musquitos. We spend two days in the park which normally should be enough. It was not very crowded. Take the hike to Osprey viewpoint. Take on this track the path to the waterfalls (not the osprey). They are also beautifull.
This is a little known treasure - at least to Floridians. Our party of 4 loved this park with all its waterfalls, beautiful hikes and variety of scenery. LOVED every second of it. Plan on spending the whole day and start from the farthest point and work your way back.
Splendid waterfalls, canyons and river with excellent salmon viewing point at Bailey's Chute in September). The dirt road from the Helmcken Falls and Clearwater Lake can be messy after rain.
This park is easily overlooked when considering a trip to the Rockies, but its definitely worth spending an extra day here when travelling between Jasper & Vancouver. There are lots of lovely waterfalls to see. We were lucky enough to see Salmon jumping upstream (late August) and a bear walking down the road. Its also free to enter, and easily accessible from Clearwater.
Growing up in Hong Kong we hardly ever get a chance to experience the beauty of nature, so my last visit to the Wells Gray Provincial Park was very memorable. We went during early October, the weather was perfect for hiking and outdoor activities, with plenty of sunshine. Driving from Kamloops it took a little less than two hours. We first stopped at the Wells Gray Visitor Center which was located at the entrance of the park. At the visitor center you can get a map of the park, and the friendly staff explained to us the major attractions and how long it takes to drive from one point to another, which we found very helpful. We went to the nearest two waterfalls - the Dawson Fall and the Helmcken Fall. At the Dawson Fall, you can take a short walk (about 10 minutes) to get to the base. At that point you can get a close look of the waterfall and you can actually touch the water. The Helmcken Fall was the largest waterfall in the park and the view was absolutely splendid! There was a picnic area at the Helmcken Fall where you can enjoy your food while listening to the sound of the waterfall. It was such a wonderful experience. If you only visit the Dawson Fall and the Helmcken Fall, it should take around 3-4 hours. Be sure to bring enough clothes as it gets pretty cold when you are near the waterfall.
This was a last minute decision to visit this park. And it's smaller then the famous parks in BC or Alberta. But at least as nice as Banff or Jasper.
We camped 2 nights at Clearwater campground and enjoyed hikes and solitude and beautiful waterfalls. I love this place. Campground is quiet and we had a spot right next to the river as it flows from the lake .... Amazing,
