This is a great place to come and visit while in Northern Cyprus. The surrounding village has real character and offers nice cafes and local craft shops. The people in the surrounding area were all welcoming and polite. The Abbey/Monastery is quite well preserved and offers a good insight into how the place would have functioned and the grounds contain some lovely fruit trees which offer colour and life. It's not a 5/5 place because, as with many places in Cyprus the materials used for restoration and to allow it to be open to the public are not really very sympathetic to the building. Too much concrete and some pretty ugly hand rails give it the feeling of a cheap job. Again, like many places we visited in Cyprus there is also very little information and historical context available. Ignoring that, it's a lovely place in a very nice village and worth a trip.
It is an amazing example of Gothic art and holds a special place in the island’s architectural inherence. The monastery’s spectacular ruins are very atmospheric, it is well preserved, with wonderful views and the village itself is lovely. The Medieval Temple has taken its name from the French “Abbaye de la Paix”.Getting here:Locate 3 miles east of Kyrenia, on the slopes of the Five-finger mountain-range (Pentadaktilos). No buses go to this monastery but it is worth the taxi fare! It is an hour’s walk each way, but I would not recommend going on foot unless you are sure where you are going. On a clear day if you are lucky enough you can see the coasts of Turkey
I was in Bellapais in October 14 but didn't visit the monastery on this occasion but remember it being interesting when I did visit. Definitely worth a trip to Bellapais
The weather wasn't good, but the trip into the hills was worth it. The monastery is relatively intact and the chapel is a good example of a facility "in the raw" - not cleaned up for the benefit of visitors
Monastery is set on a hill so amazing views from here. Interesting ruins and brilliant acoustics. Would be good to hear a concert here. Once you have seen the monastery there is not much else to do here. Can have a drink in one of the cafes.
The food wad brilliant and was great that they provided a taxi free of charge to and from the restaurant
A must visit when visiting N Cyprus, beautiful location and surroundings. Loved the views if Kyrenia from the Monestary and the quaint little town of Bellapais.
这个位于北塞的修道院风景也很漂亮,门票 7 里拉,在这里只要30分钟的时候就够了,喝个水,休息一下,看看这个历史悠久的修道院也是一种不错的选择
We ate in a restaurant that faced the Monastery which was flood lit and really beautiful unlike our meal! It is really worth a trip to the Monastery during the daytime (which we had done previously) and there are several restaurants nearby.
A beautiful ruin with gorgeous views. I wish there had been more explanation or details, but this seemed to be typical for many of the sites I visited in northern Cyprus. Don't forget to stop for coffee or tea at the little cafe on the left as you enter (not the monastery cafe). The older gentleman at the cafe is a fixture and a delight to visit with.
