When in Como it's a must to go by the funicular to Brunate. The funicular costs (3e one way and 5.50 return) the price is very resonable and very much worth it. From the funicular you can see it's possible to go up by foot but it looks tough and i wouldn't recommend it. The view while in the funicular is magnificent throughtout. Try to be at the front, by far the best view. Once you're at the top of the mountain you get even better scenaries. One thing to note is that almost everything is closed in Brunate in the off season despite the funicular being open. This means it's very hard to find a place to eat up there so be prepared and eat before. I presume this won't be a problem in the summer. All in all it's a great way to see Como, the lake, the Alps and a cute mountain top town.
Incredible views of Lake Como after you hike up to the Volta Lighthouse after taking the funicular. Great value because it's only €5.50 and you can wander around Brunate and grab lunch.
One of a kind really good experience on this unique and very old form of transport to the top of the mountain. Its really a must whenever you are in Como. The view when ypu come down from the top is amazing so be sure to stand in front when you are coming down.
Great view on the way up, great view while you are up there. Great exercise too if you want to reach the lighthouse which is one of the highest points up the mountain, looking down at all the lakes. You feel like you are in heaven, above the clouds and mountains around you and you can see the Swiss Alps snow mountains.. You can see planes and helicopters flying below you too among the clouds. Only for 5 euros. My son went there again on his own, just to watch the sunset. It is spectacular up there!
Who doesn't love a funicular? This one takes you up the mountain but only the front carriage gives the best views. Once on top, there is a nice village, a small church and expensive looking gated villas. The vistas are obstructed by trees and roofs so it is difficult to get a full panoramic view, quite unlike the funicular which brings you to the fortress in Salzburg. The experience makes for a nice day outing though. We took the funicular on the way down too since the fee is a round trip ticket anyway.
The short trip on the funicular will take you well above the lake, where you can see wonderful views. There are some restaurants and cafes at the top, where you can enjoy a coffee while enjoying the view. There are paths for walks at the top, where you can get a glimpse of some of the gorgeous Italian houses up there. Highly recommended!
What a great view all over Como and it's wonderful Lake.Went to the top where there is a small church and community with a few shops ,restaurants, souvenir places etc.Enjoyed a coffee whilst taking in the view.
Had been on the lake for the day and the ferry dropped us off at the base of the funicular at about 6 pm so up we went , nice modern cars and nice and smooth . We had an excellent meal at Capolinea Bistrot as night fell and the lights came on down below . The trip back down was wonderful , we got a seat at the front with panoramic views , breathtaking !
Don't miss taking funicular to the top of the mountain and visit the Lighthouse which guarantees experience of a life time. Sunset view is anything but stunning. Fantastic!
We have read on traveller guides about this funicular. But the views in the above village of Brunate were definitely over our expectations. We could see all the Alps in western direction including Mont Blanc. Unforgettable. Excellente and puntual service.
