This Basilica was both beautiful and over the top Baroque. It is not to be missed. This is one of the sites that gives Lecce the title of the Florence of the South.
Lit at night it is so unbelievable detailed and crafted. Looks just incredible. You can stand and look for a long time and discover new motives . We loved it. It is at the very end of the old city.
The church is magnificent from out side and inside opens morning and evening. .Attached to an old building used by government and you can go across it.Note# Take Care ..beside the church there is a tourist agency called Santa Croce Viaggi NEVER TRUST them they victimize tourist. we asked for a car tour to Ostoni and Alberobello and other place They tricked us in prices first they asked for 65 € then when we came back they changed to 75€ they weren't helpful in the information and they did not give full information regarding tickets or reservation we paid 15 each insted of 8 for castello de Grotte...The WORST was when we reached Ostoni at 4:30 pm the driver told Us am sorry but did you know that your trip is until 4 and you will pay 25€ for each extra hr. And we need 1hr to reach ur hotel. !!?? And if you dont accept i have to LEAVE YOU HERE!!! so we had to pay him !!!!!!! As it was impossible to know our way back...dont trust them
better concentrate and get a local guide to let you understand on the exteriors statues and ornaments
A delicious example of "Baroque" of Lecce. Maybe external are more beautifill than interior, but absolutely to see it
This is one of the many outstanding Baroque churches in Lecce. The facade of this one has many unusual and fanciful creatures. We visited both in the morning and in the late afternoon to note the difference in natural light. Like most everywhere in that region, the church is closed midday. Make sure to adjust your plans accordingly.
It's a stunning building both inside and out. It's a pity though that there's scaffolding outside so you can't see it in all it's glory. Inside you find a beautifully decorated church with a wonderful ceiling and many fantastically detailed sculptures. It's dimly lit inside which is a pity, but it's worth a visit if you enjoy architecture and art
Beautiful example of the incredible, Baroque style of the city. Unfortunately, the facade is under restoration so obscured somewhat by scaffolding - oh well, it has to be done!
One of the nicest all over Italy. Exterior wall sculptures are very impressive. Dim lighting in the church does not override the decorative beauty.
The churches in Lecce are renowned for their over-the top architectural decoration, but this one beats the lot. It's got to be seen to be believed. Well worth a special visit.
