This winery has the best selection of wines in the state. You can sit on the deck eat cheese and watch all the boat traffic headed to the San Juan Islands just yards away.
We have lived in Anacortes for 10 years and just discovered this piece of heaven a few years ago. The friendly and knowledgeable staff.superb wines from all over Washington.affordable wine tasting (free for wine club members).comfortable and cozy relaxed non-rushed atmosphere.wine makers from all over Wa state pouring wine in person and answering questions.activities for women and special events.savory food. What more can I say. We look forward every month to pick out our bottles of wine as club members with notes carefully researched about the wine. Seriously don't know how we lived without this place which brings wine from around the world to us personally. And then there are tours...I can go on and on..
After a delicious lunch in La Conner we stopped by for a wine tasting at Hellams, which specializes in local wines. Proprietor was very knowledgable and helpful and we were pleased to go home with a few new favorite wines. The great thing is everything is walking distance in La Conner so we were able to indulge a little and walk back to our inn. We are hoping to take in the dinner cruise/wine tasting on one of our return visits.
We love a visit to Hellam's Vineyard. Jeff, the owner, is super helpful and has picked out some great wines for us! It's fun to hang around the bar sampling various wines or picking up a glass or a bottle and hang out on the patio overlooking the water with some snacks. We joined one of their wine clubs and have loved the selections. We've talked about a variety of wines, recipes, etc. Can't wait to go for our next visit!
We have a very relaxed and casual atmosphere, and a lot of our customers enjoy time in the shop because it's a place they can have privacy, conversation by themselves and a romantic experience. We apologize if you felt you were being ignored, when actually we were simply honoring what we thought was personal time with your partner.Customers who stand at the tasting bar and enjoy their wine tasting are given detailed information about the wines, including answering any questions and of course casual conversation. Since you chose to sit in the couch area and go back and forth between the tasting bar and the sitting area while enjoying your cheese plate, we respected your privacy as we do all of our customers. Next time around if you have a question, please don't hesitate to ask, and we look forward to your next visit.
Apparently you didn't actually come inside the store, because if you had you would've found that we have seating for over 25 people. We have cozy couches, a 2nd tasting bar, full table with chairs, and other tables/chairs to use. If the bar was crowded, the owner (me) was more than likely running around helping customers, making cheese plates, pouring wine, ringing up sales... you know, the things that a busy, successful wine shop does! "Mean spiritedness of lying..." - wow! Are you associated with the other place in town you mentioned? Your "review" is transparent, bogus and quite frankly, disgusting! However, because we are FRIENDLY people, we still invite you to return and enjoy the best wine shop in Washington!
Hellams is a great experience for Western Washington. The owner Jeff brings in winery's from Walla Walla, Chelan, Yakima Valley, Woodinville, and every other part of Washington to weekend tastings. It is a great place to learn about new wines and talk to the wine makers with out going to Eastern Washington or Woodinville. He also has distributors come in for very specific regions such as Argentina Malbecs or Tuscan Italian wines. He has a large selection of wines, and can make recommendations. Great place to buy a bottle of wine, uncork it and drink it in their sitting areas, or outside overlooking the channel on nice days- be sure to get a cheese plate too. He also has music, boat trips through the islands, socials, evening events, and dinner with the wine makers. Some of the great wines we have had there recently include Stevens, Walla Walla Vintners, Kontos, Guardian, and many more. They also have a wide variety of beer from around the world. They can get busy on Saturday's but you will get great friendly service. I highly recommend if you visit LaConner, or are a local. We stop by at least once a month.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, interesting selection of wines. Nice surprise in La Conner. Great place to meet wine-lover friends for a glass of wine after work or before dinner at one of the many restaurants in LC. Sofa seating was full when we arrived at 5pm, but we tasted wines at the bar and chatted there until closing time. Will definitely go back!
Based upon your other reviews, it looks as if you had a bad day (giving one star reviews for two other La Conner businesses for not being open? Do you really think that's fair?). At any rate, our staff cannot possibly expect to know every single wine in the universe... they are knowledgeable and friendly, and we're confident they represent us well here despite your negative review.
We had such fun here! The tastings were very reasonable priced ($1 a pour), and the owner (I think) was very attentive and knowledgeable. When we asked about a bottle in the shop that looked interesting, he opened one for us to try. It was so delicious we bought 2 bottles. The little seating area outside is right on the inlet, and there are multiple cozy nooks within the shop itself in addition to the bar. Great selection of bottles in the shop too.
