Great walking beach. Fires permitted. The views change as you walk and the rocks out in the distance seem to move. We were there on a sunny February day and you just couldn't beat the sunset!
First Beach at La Push, Washington, is a gray sandy beach in a gentle curve with headlands marking the southern edge and a series of several just offshore small islands, called "Sea Stacks" marking the northern end. The sea stacks are connected to the mainland by a narrow dirt, rock, gravel, driftwood filled causeway which you can walk on to go out to the islands. The beach itself seems to be about a third of a mile wide, with nice medium size surf and plenty of great bleached driftwood and logs to sit on to watch the surfers. The beach sits right in front of the Oceanside Resort, and from the resort rooms, you can easily hear the roar and crack of the surf. There is no beach combing allowed here, and that's OK, because there are no shells to be found. But thre is lots of really interesting chunkis and bits and pieces of pretty driftwood. And at night, the sunsets over the sea stacks can be fabulous.
The beach is full of large pieces of driftwood. The beach has no shells...only smooth ricks. It is said that the water is some of the best for surfing...although I don't surf and can't attest to this claim.
First beach has tons of drift wood for sitting on and watching the ocean and surfers or you can get a permit to have a beach fire ( wish I would have :( ) the beach is long so its nice for walking. The town of la push is a little run down but the beach makes it worth it ~
I could spend hours at this beach. It is so peaceful and absolutely breathtaking. All the washed-up trees are unlike anything I had every seen before--they made for some great pictures. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
my husband loved surfing here... it was nice walking at night as well... the perfect storm watchers beach
It was like walking onto a movie set or into a photograhpers' scene. The islands, the mist, the driftwood all combine to create a perfect scene.
Rialto is another beach that is great for walking and photo ops and no hike in you park and walk a few feet to the beach. amazing nature
We enjoyed watching different birds flying around. The scenery is beautiful and well worth visiting!
There are no tide pools on this beach. First Beach is very wide with beautiful sea stacks and tons of logs. We saw some children, surfers and SUP's in the water. Our kids climbed logs for hours and enjoyed our camp fire, and in the evening many folks had fire works... it is a really nice change from the East coast beaches!
