This is a nice campus, very walkable in all seasons. The vibe is relaxed and laid-back and very friendly. Much more pleasant than some east coast universities have visited. Have walked around numerous times. Suggest a visit to the Gateway Center, as there is much to see inside there. Art Museum also worth a visit (it is free). Try the university store or the Brown and Gold Outlet across the street on Grand Ave. for U Wyo tees and souvenirs.
We went to the University of Wyoming to see the dinosaur museum, but we couldn't get to it because of the construction going on. The Geology Museum was right in the middle of the construction. We were looking forward to seeing that too. Maybe on our way back through.
We did a walking tour of the campus in about one hour. It's a very attractive university campus with lots of old limestone buildings that are in excellent condition.
I attended my first UW game Sept. 20, and had a blast. They give you the history of the War Memorial Stadium before the game and I thought that was impressive, as a Wyomingite I find that we are very thankful and supportive of our troops. The game itself was exciting and we won, which was awesome. During the game they recognized many people including parents of the year as it was family visit weekend. My visit was to see campus before I transfer in the spring and after visiting I am excited to move down there. The campus is beautiful and there is a smaller student body so you don't get lost in the crowd.
If you are from a busy city, this is a county that you could relax very quit. It is build because it is a railway port and now it is more of a college county :)
Took my son to attend the transfer student orientation for the fall semester. Everyone was very nice and extremely helpful. The orientation was very well led and informative and my son got registered for his classes with very little trouble (what trouble he did have was caused by the previous school and NOT U of W but they figured it out for him!) My wife an I are looking forward to road- tripping out to Laramie to visit... A LOT!
The people who toured us were very pleasant, informative and accomodating. My son is interested in applying to the civil engineering department, and the University actually got a professor (John Bryant) to give us one hour of his time. He was the highlight of the visit - made us feel special versus just another applicant.Based on the reception and friendliness and the low teacher to student ratio, my son will likely be attending UW Fall 2015.
I've reviewed the geology museum but the Art faculty also has a gallery area open to the public that has exhibitions and fixed displays. There is plenty of parking and this is well worth a visit if in Laramie and have any interest in both art and the history of art in the USA
They have an amazing permanent collection and wonderful on-loan exhibits as well. We'll be returning again to see new exhibits.
Well organized, great maps, free bus service throughout the entire campus (which stretches all over the town of Laramie). We found our time on the University campus to be very rewarding. Everyone was very helpful and friendly.
