used to be a wonderful park, but like so many places in Redding it is now risky. the city is now a poor place to visit or live, look around at the downtown area
Located on the Sacramento River with miles of trails leading out of the Park. There is a small water park that is very reasonably priced and also a skate park, lots of trees and picnic tables. We had my granddaughters birthday there and it was perfect for a large group with plenty of shade to beat the heat on a hot day.I recommend the water park because of pricing and the amount of time required. It's not an all day event just a quick break from the heat.
Caldwell Park includes a very nice Aquatic Center, art gallery, fish viewing facility, rec center, soccer fields, skate park, and more. Gorgeous outdoor area with walking trails along the Sacramento River, but ALL of Redding has been overrun with homeless & criminal transients. Fed & catered to by a large number of vocal do-gooder organizations, they run amok day & night. Take precautions as if you are in a dangerous big city as law enforcement has not grown to keep up with the increased demands. Leave valuables @ home, lock everything else in your trunk, and watch your kids. Sad but true. No longer a pleasant place to visit, live, or do business.
The nice thing about Caldwell Park is the location along the Sacramento River. There are playgrounds and soccer fields as well as a skate park within its location. The Aquatic center, also located in Caldwell Park has various hours set for swimming lessons, school parties and open swims. This setting (Aquatic Center) is the site of competitive swim meets as well. The only draw back that visitors should be aware of is the homeless population that frequents the park. If you are closer to the Market Street/Quartz Hill end of the park, most of the encounters would be there. You can go deeper into the park (nearer to the Aquatic Center) and weed or panhandling won't be as much an issue.
Caldwell Park is filled with free things to do! Playground for kiddies, rock climbing area for kids, skate board park, hands-on museum, picnic areas, walking trails along the Sacramento River, Fish Viewing area, and a wonderful pool with play area for little ones and a water slide for older kids, at a minimal cost! Great place to spend a day!
This well-maintained park has a nice collection of wide, gentle trails and generous swaths of grassy lawns. The pleasant mix of sun and shade and the picturesque view of the snow-capped mountain range make this gem of a park an ideal spot for taking a relaxing stroll or walking Fido.
This is beautiful park right next to the Sacramento River. You can walk along the river and sit on one of the many benches along the trail. We saw a wild otter playing in the river on our last trip! There is also a playground for the little ones, and a large public swimming pool. This park is in walking distance from the Redding Travelodge.
If vacationing in Redding, don't forget our Great park and Olympic Size pool. Beautiful grounds, River walks, Watch salmon swimming and going over ladders. A wonderful day can be had by all.
Caldwell Park is a green respite from the heat in Redding. It borders the Sacramento River and has several facilities including the Aquatic Center with pools and slides, soccer and baseball fields, skate board park picnic benches and a childrens play ground. As with any public area in any city, there are some homeless who hang out there but it is patrolled.
we road our bikes to this park which is by the river and has lots of water fowl, nice trails and peaceful setting.
