The wife of the reverend with her (at time) age five year old or six year old son from Liberal KANSAS Church of te Nazarene take me here! Five dollar for out of town, out of state people, think regular Adult price was $7.00! Lots aircraft! There was even one where Ryan (remember kindergarten so age five or six) wanted climb in, we each take turn being captain and passenger! Me, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Liberal, where local time is (such and such), weather is very rainy, wnds south west seven miles an hour! Enjoy your visit with Dorothy and Toto!" The mother knew I used to flying by listening to this! His turn, "Ah Captain, where are we going?" Him, "We going to United States of America," I say to the mother, "Well, I guess that takes care all of it!" There one area, you touch a button, the air balloon blows up then deflates! Child friendly! Came September 11, 2013 (YES THAT DATE) to September 18, 2013!
We had a couple of hours to kill so we stopped in here. Neat airplane museum and the staff was awesome.
We stopped here for break and spent maybe 1 1/2 hours. The fee is minimal and I was really impressed to find such a place in a small Kansas town. If passing through Liberal,KS take the time to see it. There is quite a bit to take in.
Over 100 planes plus interesting displays from when Liberal was a WW-II flight training base for B-24s. Well worth the $7. Plan on about an hour - maybe more - a lot of civil aircraft but a good number of military too - some Navy WW-II era that you don't see real often. Also several helicopters.
GREAT museum. I can not get enough of it. Was there couple of years ago and already planning on going again in a year or so. If in Liberal it is a have to see museum!
I love going to the air museum. They have great hands on exhibits. They have a nice variety of planes.
The hangers are full of every kind of plane. They even have some still on the flight line out back. If your interested in military planes, early airplanes and even some NASA planes you will enjoy this museum!
We were on a roadtrip around the Southwest and stopped in Liberal. The Air museum was a great stop! THe staff was very friendly and there were so many airplanes!!!! It was nice hands on when you got to sit in some of the planes. You can take your time going through the museum. It is very clean and a nice local stop.
The number of planes they have is amazing. I wish they could afford to update the facility. Orange bathrooms and faucets that are broken.
This was written up as being one of the larger air museums in the country with 100 planes. but when you get there, you find that at least half the planes are more civilian aircraft, Piper's Beechcraft, etc. not military or groundbreaking commercial planes like DC3's. Maybe we're too military oriented but there was not much to learn about many of their planes and so it fell flat for us. The plane writeups were pretty short of information too. It was cheap to get in and we met some nice people there. But other air museums would rank much higher on our list like Dayton, Palm Springs or even the SAC museum in Nebraska. If you're in the area though, it is worth stopping in.
