This theater is so neat, they have Woodsongs there. And truly an Excellent experience. You can always check out the website to find out what musical group is playing there. And movies, love it! It really is a luxury theater, and the decor is so beautiful!
Step into yesteryear with the newly restored Kentucky Theater in downtown to enjoy an art-house / indie movie, a concert or sometimes even a first run blockbuster film. Here, you will have a choice of freshly popped corn, made on premise, wine, beer and cocktails, and best of all, a wonderfully restored grand and glorious theater, with the architectural detail in the lobby and the two theaters that will have you mesmerized! The new lighting, paint and the new comfortable seats are mighty fine - and soon to be organ from the past will appear, as it was many decades ago before the "talkies"! I'd rather drive downtown and park 1/2 block in the city garage on Main @ MLK or on street and enjoy the Kentucky Theatre than pay more and opt for a hum-drum suburban movie theatre. This is what 's is all about!
Went to see a high school presentation of Shrek the Musical with my 11 year old for his birthday and we had enjoyed it very much. It is a small theater so there really isn't a bad seat although we were on the second row.
We love going to The Kentucky Theater because many times it is the only place we can see independent films. A bonus is that we are generally there with like-minded individuals and, best of all, you can have a beer or glass of wine while watching the movie! We also love the Downton Abbey premiere every winter before it is broadcast!
This is an "old style" theater (recently remodeled) - long aisles, big screen, the feeling of "being at the movies." You can get soft drinks and/or beer and wine a the concession stand, too.
Saw a movie right after it was renovated. Well worth a visit! Always look for a reason to go to the Kentucky Theatre when we are in town.
We were going to be in town just for a couple of days and wanted to catch a movie here to see what we read on line to be a grand old theater. We bought tickets to see a showing at one of the few times we could fit in our schedule. Little did we know that there is more than one theater inside. The one that was screening our film was NOT the venue you see in the photos. Ours was a sad wannabe. We did not get to experience seeing a movie in a grand old theater. Besides, our movie was HORRIBLE. When I say horrible, I mean terrible! BTW, they don't show current or even recent releases, but can't even believe that this movie even made the cut. For these reasons, I feel like I wasted our time here. If you do decide to go for the same reason we did, investigate which theater your movie will be in and read that film's reviews beforehand. (If the entryway and the lobby were any indication, we missed out on a great experience by not having seen the real attraction here.)
A friend and I visited the Kentucky Theater for a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The theater was easy to find in downtown Lexington. There is street parking or you can use a parking garage just a block away. The theater even has a deal with the garage so you pay less for parking when you let the theater validate your token. The theater is beautiful and majestic. They have traditional concession stand items but also beer and wine. The show was great and lots of fun! The theater plays different types of movies for a good price. I will be returning!
Love to go here to watch a movie whether it is an old classic or a new release! The Rocky Horror Picture Show is especially fun around Halloween.
This place has a storied history, and shows a variety of popular films, documentaries, midnight movies, series, and even hosts the monthly Rocky Horror Picture Show. Good fun - and there are adult beverage options at the concession stand!
