Great on a very hot day, but swimming pool even better, a great place for a rest, easy to find. Can recommend a visit
Just go.My favorite times are dawn and dusk every day when I am visiting. Soak away your stress, muscle aches and pains after an unlimited free hot water shower. BLISS. Chat to travelers and locals. With luck some local kangaroos will turn up and gaze at you as well from the other side of the fence. Completely free and as a solo female traveler a great place to have a chat with anyone and everyone.
The artesian bore baths were fantastic. We were staying at the Opal Caravan park across the road so this was a very short walk from there. Make sure you read the sign first for instructions and warnings as the season dictates the temperature of the water. Oh, and make sure to wash before and after. The water can be quite hot, so ease in. Very refreshing experience - and free!
Don't miss the opportunity to head out to the Artesian Baths. A quick drive out of town or a 30min walk. Take your bathers and relax with all the locals and soak your ailments away with the warm water. Child friendly also.
Great little spot, the thermal bath was modest but very well maintained by the local council. If you like it hot (about 40 degrees centigrade) then this is the spot for you. Great time to go is at night, you'll sure to get a deep sleep after a good soak. It's always open except for cleaning for an hour or two in the mornings. It's free to get in. The 'Ridge township is worth the stop, it has a lot of history and the locals are friendly. Has a great art gallery as well as an incredibly well stocked hardware shop, of all things. I love the old rusted out car wrecks, make great subjects for my drawings.
It was great to walk from our caravan park The Opal park to the baths. Soaking up the experience in the evening under the stars. How lucky are the people of Lightning Ridge to gave such a wonderfully presented pool. Our caravan park was awesome, as are the people who manage it. Very helpful and proud of their park and the town. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
On the outskirts of Lightning Ridge, 5 min drive from the town or some 20 min walk from a hospital is an outdoor natural thermal spa, enriched with minerals, constant in temperature and FREE to use almost 22 hours per day, as it only closes for 2 hours for cleaning. The spa was created out of a bore hole and the hot water gushes out of Artesian basin from 1000m below the surface. People that come to use it come from far and wide, from every Australian state and they keep coming here every year for years and years. After my visit, I have no doubt that the water has magnificent health benefits and I would recommend to anyone who can medically handle 41 - 42C temperature to try the spa. Daily use will warm up the aching joints and soothe your pains as well as help increase your mobility. The only critique here is that I would prefer that the premises be fitted with lockers and cameras to be installed as well as the water to be more frequently cleaned. But I guess, these recommendations would have to be proposed to the local council and this would in turn then start costing money..Anyway, it's still free and fantastic and it's absolutely not to be missed!!! Some great conversations and friends are to be made in that spa!!!
In Lightning Ridge the place to go is the Thermal Pools. The water is very HOT so ease yourself in and enjoy. It's the place to be to meet people from every where and the locals as well, all have a story to tell while you ease away your travel aches and pains.
Great to meet people for a chat. Baths great for rejuvenating mind, body & soul.Excellent for aching joints.
No aches and pains anymore. 41 degrees C temperature in winter. What bliss. Highly recommended. Also stay at the excellent Opal caravan park. It is a 2 min walk to the baths.
