One of my favourite things to do is walk around the UWO campus. It is so pretty in the fall and winter. Very little traffic on campus as it is restricted so it is safe for walkers .. in fact the campus as a whole is very safe. The Thames River wanders through the campus and the buildings are classical/ivy league type interspersed with modern ones. A great way to spend the afternoon...take the bus if going on a weekday as parking is scarce.
I live in this city, and cannot recommend you spend your time touring Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario). It is poorly planned eyesore of different styles and shapes of buildings. Some of the buildings have a older charm and are made of stone, something next to it is an architectural disaster and is made of some newer building materials. The students are poor citizens of the city, often causing trouble and showing egregious disrespect. They don't obey any traffic signals, so be very careful if you are driving. Also, the university has its own police "division" and they are happy to pull you over for little (or no) reason. Spend your time elsewhere, such as on Richmond Row or Masonville Mall.
For anyone looking to see beautiful architecture and landscaping, UWO is an excellent place to visit. The university has many hidden gems (the arch under University College, the Stained Glass walkway from Thames Hall to Somerville House, etc) that really add to its beauty. In addition to beautiful landscaping year round (It's particularly impressive when the purple tulips are in bloom in the spring) Western has some excellent dining options. The Spoke is great for a quick beer, The Wave is excellent for an informal meeting and the nearby Windermere Cafe/Windermere Manor owned by the University (in the Research Park) are excellent for more formal occasions. Definitely worth a visit !
Come VISIT ENJOY !!!WHAT a campus - come a see one of the best schools in the WORLD !!!Tour, visit, dine - Don't miss it !Worth the trip to London, alone !
It is a very nice University and anybody who can study here should! It is not something I would recommend somebody from out of town should go out of their way to see. There is food and some stores in the area but not worth going here for.
The University campus is a very easy walk with many heritage buildings. The Weldon Library is a central hub and joins with the central campus services areas with stores and other services. There is a wonderful recreation facility on the south end of the campus. If your child is thinking of attending University then it is worth a visit.
Campus is sprawling and gorgeous. Visited family and am impressed with the level of maintenance. Flower beds composed of various purple-hued blooms, purple being the main school color.
Just visited Ivey Business School, and experienced what it is like to be a student. Outstanding school, incredible faculty, and beautiful new building. A must see, when in London, Ontario next.
Western University is a must see for London. 3 of my kids and I all went here for education. Great University for the world to share.
