The is the state museum of Art for North Carolina and has a large an extensive art collection and a large outside museum par, The newest building includes the permanent collection including an extensive Rodin collection. The other building is where the changing exhibits of art are. The outside park includes a variety of art exhibits and an extensive walking trail. Also outside is a theater screen for movies during the summer. Admission and parking is free except for special travel exhibits. Also on site is Iris the restaurant and a gift shop. Allow yourself several hours especially if you want to do both the museum and the park.
Very impressed with the museum! I was very impressed with their European permanent collection as well with the number of Rodin sculptures they had.
I love the special expositions that they do, such as the porshe car collection exhibit which was exquisite.
I expend a two hours tour. The expositions are very good, I like the Rodin sculptures. The interior design is good.
There are so many things to see, both inside and outside here. Get inspired by different exhibits, and adventure outdoors to find some hidden treasures. You could spend all day here - great for couples, families, or a solo trip.
Museums are meant to be thought provoking, North Carolina Museum of Art hits that squarely. I have visited frequently and enjoy the art instillations. The outside is as wonderful as the inside. This is a gem for the city of Raleigh. The restaurant Iris is wonderful for lunch after seeing the art.
I recommend visiting this museum on a sunny day. The outside of the building looks its' best on a clear evening, but the inside of the building needs good sunlight outside to be seen to its' best advantage inside.
The museum is easy to access. Note that there are two separate venues (traditional and contemporary) in different buildings. Plan your trip ahead of time. The handicap parking is not the senior citizen parking. If you need handicap parking drive as close to the building as possible and you will find it. Do not miss the Audubon exhibit in the contemporary building. The room is a classic.
My kids and I love this museum! It always has the most amazing exhibits...best photo ops...and great times! Kids and I have so much fun exploring here and learning so much as we go! Excellent place for school field trips, or family field trips....bring a camera!!!
I visited this museum with some elderly people, some young people, and some children. Everyone of us got a different view of the museum but everyone enjoyed themselves.
