Went to Rotorua with a group and went on the luge. The whole set up of the skyline was disturbingly similar to Queenstown, with a gondola from the base to the visitor center, and then a luge, zipline, and other stuff connected by a chairlift. The luge has 3 levels, and you can go on 5 times. On the first run, you must go down the scenic route, which is shaded and designed specifically for beginners. Then there is an intermediate track, which is my favorite, because it offers mild thrills and great views. Finally, there is the advanced track, which I only recommend if you are a fast luger, due to the twist and turns. Overall, the luge was fun, but Queenstown is where the real luge is at, and Rotorua is where the volcanic activity and Maori culture are at.
A gondola ride to top of Mount Ngongotaha.A restaurant with a fantastic view. Great buffet . Well stocked bar. Pleasant service. A rewarding experience

We chose the perfect day weather-wise (overcast weather) and arrived early at just after 10am in March (not during school holidays). I'd reviewed the package online before purchasing the Adventure passes which included Gondola, luge x 5 rides, zipline including the drop immediately after it and OMG skyswing! You feel safe, the equipment is fully customized according to your weight etc. The most terrifying was skyswing although I have no regrets doing it, that was more from the fact I had prepaid it online for myself and two children $325 (ages 10 & nearly 12 yrs) and wasn't about to pull out of any component of the whole package. You pay extra for your photo's and video but handy they give you this via USB. A gopro is attached which records everything, including when you're travelling at 150kms and your skin looks as though it's going to peel of your face. It's hard to walk away and not buy your footage as it creates so many moments to laugh at yourselves. I have to admit, I was proud that I'd 'braved it' especially for my children as my 12y/o girl cried and begged to pull out due to the fear of the slow ride up/backwards which precedes pulling the rip cord to start the whole process and even my fearless 10 y/o son let out a whimper which at that point made me realise I too was petrified! Once you pull the ripcord thingy, OMG it's sooo fast (150 kms I've been told) and it feels like you're swinging all the way out into oblivion and back and forward you go until you slow down and get anchored by staff. Personally, I know my legs were like jelly after it. You soon get cheered up by your video footage and photos, would I do it again?....probably not! Do I have regrets for do the skyswing?.....absolutely not. The stickers given out state "I survived the skyswing" and you literally feel that it was THE ride to survive LOL!
To break up our road trip me and my partner attended the skyline and luge with the views of Lake rotorua we couldn't of spent a better morning zip lining and luring. But 5 goes was to many as there's only 3 tracks Michael & Fiona uk
We took the Gondola to the Stratosfare Resturant for an early breakfast and to watch the sun rise. Great place to start the day in Rotorua! Don't miss the Luge ride! Great for young and old (I'm 73)
Great view of Rotorua, but restaurant is a pass. I would just take a ride on the gondola get a view and find a decent restaurant to eat at. The restaurant was staffed with very young college kids. Service was ok. Kind of a tourist trap.
