My husband and I visited Luray for our wedding anniversary. A colleague recommended Appalachian Adventures, and we quickly decided we would love to go horseback riding again! It had been years since either of us had been riding, and we thought it would be very special for our anniversary. We worked with Gabriella to schedule and book our ride. We both work full time, and she was very helpful in scheduling. We got to the main office to check in, and they helped us navigate to the barn. Gabriella was the guide for our ride, and she was absolutely great! She gave us all tips before riding, and helped us get settled. We then rode for about 45 minutes - and the scenery was beyond beautiful!!!!! We would highly recommend Appalachian Adventures and Gabriella to anyone visiting Luray!! We can't wait to come back! - Sean & Aneta
the cabin we rented I have stayed in before, it is large and has everthing you could think of a fire place hot tub, full kitchen. and it is near skyline drive, and laray caverns, you will love this place as much as we did!
We did the two hour ATV ride for my birthday and it was SPECTACULAR! Matt was our guide and he did an amazing job feeling out how comfortable we were and adjusting the tour to fit our needs. We had such a great time and will absolutely be going back!! I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever thought about riding ATV's (or even if not) because you will definitely not be disappointed. Appalachian Adventures has the BEST customer service, everyone was so friendly and willing to help and Francesca even met us at the end of the tour to make sure we had a great time. The experience was wonderful and I could not have asked for a better time. THANK YOU APPALACHIAN ADVENTURES!!! You made my birthday unforgettable!
My boyfriend and I reserved the 2 hour ATV ride with Matt and had an amazing experience. Matt was extremely patient and helpful while I learned to ride for the first time and was great with my boyfriend who is an experienced rider. I definitely recommend 2 hours as the first hour was focused on learning how to ride, learning the courses, and building up confidence to go faster. If this was the only thing rated, this would definitely be a five star experience. As for the check-in process, I would rate this 2-3 stars. Christie did a fantastic job booking our reservations and being very helpful. She instructed me multiple times to arrive to the office by 10 a.m. so we could sign paperwork and drive to the trail prior to our start time. She also suggested bringing cash for payment since there is a 5% fee for credit card transactions. We arrived at the office at 10 a.m. and no one was there. After calling a couple of times, a woman (not Christie) finally answered and said she would be on her way as they were just wrapping up a staff meeting. She arrived 15 minutes later and offered no apology for being late, and didn't even acknowledge us waiting for her as she was on a phone call and walked straight to the stairway. At the office, we signed paperwork and proceeded to pay with cash. The woman informed us that she didn't have change, which would've meant we needed to pay more than our total. We told her that wasn't acceptable and that we'd keep the difference to pay our guide (Matt). She still offered no apology, but I do appreciate that she wasn't rude and remained professional. From what I was told, the front office has various people helping while they fill a position, but I highly suggest they focus on customer service as this equally impacts the experience with Appalachian Adventures.
We were looking for a fun and safe adventure after days of touring monuments and museums in Washington, DC. The ladies who helped with our reservation made every effort to accommodate our special requests (tour time and duration due to our travel arrangements). Once we got to the trail, Matt showed outstanding patience with our 17 daughter as a new rider. The experience was safe, fun for all riding levels, and the scenery was beautiful.Only comment was the price for the length of trip. We took a longer trip for less money with a brief ride across a river in Missouri, but this was still a really fun trip. Also, there was only a port-o-potty at the office and NO FACILITIES on the trail which is tough if it is summer and you are trying to stay hydrated. You must do this if you are in Va. Thanks, Matt for the outstanding day!
Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend wearing water shoes and plenty of sunblock!
ATV-ing is a fun way to spend the day with your kids and grandchildren especially when the host makes it so easy and understandable to drive one of these vehicles over rough terrain. Our host guide was Matt and we can't say enough positive compliments about his instructing skills and personal style in dealing with folks through a wide range of ages. We were very comfortable with him leading us through the trails. Personal safety is a top priority with Matt specifically ...and the Appalachian Adventures management in general. The "pre-safety" briefing when registering was very thorough and certainly well presented. Matt the guide on-site safety briefing was hands-on and personal to each driver. We found that if you heeded what was said, you enjoyed the experience even more. We give top marks to Appalachian and especially to Matt. Prepare yourselves for a delightful time. We'll be coming back for one of their other adventure opportunities!
The good: My husband and I did the 2 hour ATVs. I had never rode before and it was great. Matt was our guide and he was great. Not so good: The excursion was a bit of a splurge (expensive) so I was a little surprised that the guides rely solely on tips. I don't have a problem with tipping a guide for a job well-done but they should get a portion of the $300 I paid. Perhaps it's an industry practice I don't agree with. Nonetheless, it was worth it.Beware of the location, it's hard to find and the address on tripadvisor is not to the main office.
Being an avid equestrianist, I decided to take a short trip to try one of the local stables for a ride and stumbled across Appalachian Adventures Stables. Gabriella and her staff were the nicest, down to earth people that I have ever come across. The horses were well mannered and could not hurt a fly. Not only where the horses excellent but you can also tell that they are well loved and cared for.
We had an awesome time and thoroughly enjoyed Matt, our ATV guide. Took some awesome pictures and created wonderful family memories! Thank you Appalachian Adventures!
