we have been coming to the Massanutten are for the last 5 years and every time we come we do this trail walk with the kids, (18,13 and 7) and they love it we have fun we have done it in the morning at mid day and in the afternoon, it is always awesome, but the late afternoon in the spring time is the best with the sun at your back, and see the Orange sky fade away.
Not very tiring and your kids (if below the age of 10) will enjoy. Once you reach the deck, the view is amazing!!
This is a beautiful short easy trail to enjoy. The overlook has beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley. My only complaint is that there was some trash thrown about in the parking area and there was spray paint on some of the rock structures which took away from beauty. I assume it must have been some local residents that would destroy it because I can't imagine that tourists would carry spray paint in their luggage but I don't know for sure of course.
This is the perfect hiking trail for small children. It is paved to the top smooth enough to push a stroller, but there are lots of rock filled side trails to engage and interest the older kids who want to explore. Pretty view and lots of spots to stop and grab a picnic lunch.
Go in June when the mountain laurel is out... then it is truly "storybook"! Go in the afternoon, when the sun is behind you, to catch the sunset over the Shenandoahs.
I'm a local & me, my husband & our kids visit this location at least 6 or 7 times a year & it never gets old. There is plenty of parking, the trails are paved, beautiful scenery & breathtaking views. There are little podiums along the paths to tell you interesting information about the rocks, woods & local lore surrounding the trails. There are quite a few spots on the side of the trails where it's kind of like a natural photo shoot spot, very nice. I would recommend this site seeing spit to anyone.
A very nice, if short, walk. Beautiful valley views. A really cool vista of the valley, from the deck suspended off the side of the mountain. Well worth the stop.
easy walk from the road. great views. easy to find. Clean, marked well with informative signs. small mar is that walmart is in view albiet in the distance.
This is free, and quick hike for those with mobility concerns, not enough time or children that are just ready to go. The short hike is work it to catch a glimpse of the valley - what a view and worth the walk.
This was easy to find and walk. Great for people with mobility concerns. A short, flat walk delivered great views. Highly recommended!
