One of the must-do's when you're visiting Rotterdam. It's a really nice speedboat experience when travelling by Watertaxi across the water. You almost feel like James Bond when crossing the water with high speed while watching the Erasmus Bridge and the impressive skyline. I however think that this attraction should be moved to the attractions part, given that I do not consider it part of "shopping".
I wanted to surprise my girlfriend who was celebrating her birthday. Leaving the restaurant situated at the waterfront we boarded a fast water taxi ( there is a slow one as well for very short trips) and the boat driver gave us an exciting ride. Bouncing the waves it was more like attraction than a taxi. My friends loved it. The water taxi connects a lot of places worth visiting
Only use it once to go from Blaak to the SS Rotterdam for a business party and it was a very fun way to travel. You can sit in or outside the boat and enjoy great views of Rotterdam.
we took group taxi for 5 ppl and it cost around 22-23 €. it ride is only around 3-4 minutes but that speed, that chilling winds through hair, that awesome trail of water behind the boat will leave you thrilled and force you to scream and shout. In between the driver makes a turn so fast that you can clearly see the boat to be angled/banked at 25-30 degrees ... hell lot of an experience.... undoubtedly the best thing we did in Rotterdam...never wanted it to endPS: in the pictures, u will not feel the speed with which the boat runs
Staying in the Nhow hotel we decided to try one of the older style water taxis, its a total crazy way to travel from one side to the other of the river Maas, it can be very bumpy and as I found out having a slight knee probleem, getting in and out is a mayor issue, sitting on a low bench isnt easy either and getting out again took some doing so my advise to those with dodgy knees think twice about using the taxi boats.
This is a great novelty way of travelling around.A friuend and I took it from the hotel new york and travelled to downtown in March- it was chilly but got some great pictures.Staff are all really friendly too- can get pricey- so dont go too far!
Just call the taxi a few minutes before you need them and let them know which route you like to take. It is a fast ride so sit in the back and enjoy the ride. Don't expect much sight seeing as this is a taxi. If you want to do some that take the Speedo. If you just want to go from A to B and are in no hurry this is a bit expensive, however for a bit more fun this is quite good!Note: getting into and out of the taxi is not for everyone as it requires a bit of 'climbing'
Had a spectacular trip from the SS Rotterdam to central Rotterdam. I think James Bond was our captain. We enjoyed the spectacular ride, sharp curves and high speed thru the darkness before Christmas. Better then Disney World. Excellent attraction.
very fast way of going from one place to the other in ROtterdam; the only problem is that the drivers are too macho ... the absolutely need to demonstrate ...Too expensive
There are modern and antique water taxis. One of the old ones goes from the quay just west of the Wereld Museum across the River Maas to the New York Hotel in the Holland America building. From there it's a nice walk past the De Rotterdam building and across the Erasmus Bridge back to downtown. It costs about four euros, pay in cash on the boat. A great way to quickly and cheaply sample the water view.
