Some of the best wine I have tasted. I tend to the Cab, Merlot, Zin wines and their port is right there.
A lot has changed here at this winery. Changes for these best and they have been growing. Once a year they have stomp party where we pick, stomp, and then have lunch. This is a whole family event. Then they have what I call a perfect date night. Being a portfolio society member we are treated two times a year to a party to release 3 new ports or blends just for us. Peter the owner is always at these talking and visiting. Any time we visited their tasting room we are treated as family. This place is a must. Call or visit their web site for more events or to just to order lunch to go with your glass of port. Things are always happening here. They do have other wines if you are not into the sweet stuff. But do try everything before you make up your mind.
We continue to come back time after time. The staff is great, and ports are even better. If you have questions, they have the answers. Don't miss this winery if you are in the Madera area.
The town of Madera wouldn't be visit worthy without this little gem. Throughly enjoyed our visit and made several purchases as well. It was by far the friendliest winery we visited.
Ficklin Winery in Madera is one of the local wineries located near the city where I live. From the time you walk in you feel welcome. The hosts are very informative and glad to pour samples free of charge. They have a Portfolio Society that is available to join so you can have deliveries of the new releases. There port wines are my favorite. Each one is very interesting and the host will tell you the process and how it becomes port. The winemaker makes his appearance and it is always exciting to talk with him and find out how his father started the business. Also they are glad to show you the vines that started the winery. Quite an experience. Oh yes want to mention again the tastings areFree of charge.
Ficklin is well known for their port wines. They have a wide variety of them, all terrific. And it is a fun tasting room trying all the different ones and some great chocolates as well.
The winery has grown over a number of years and has become well known for its Port Wines. They have an excellent variety of ports. The tasting room is modest and you are in the winery with the barrels. but very comfortable. The staff is very courteous and very knowledgeable on port wines. It is an enjoyable winery to visit if your are a fan of excellent port wine.
If you have never tried Port before or have tried some of the bottom shelf stuff at the supermarket, do yourself a favor and come try some of the best. They have a Port to suit anyone's tastebuds. All the grapes are grown on-site and the tradition and ambiance here is amazing.
I am not a sweet wine lover but I must say that this vineyard has a port for every taste. Granted, some are VERY sweet but there are also ones that have a little more "zing" to them. My favorite so far is the Old Vine Tawny.I must note that there is a tasting (we went during a wine tasting weekend event) and there was food available at that time. However, am not sure what the fees are on a regular basis of if food is regularly available. You should contact winery for that info.
Known worldwide this is one of the best Port Wine producers anywhere. Nice people in the tasting room. Nothing fancy, just down to earth good place to visit and taste excellent ports. Been there several times during wine trail.
