Went via the Big Bus tour which was great for me being only 2 days in Miami. I got to learn about the art and see stuff on the way. I then got off and walked through the neighbourhood myself. Amazing art just about everywhere, nice chilled walk through eclectic streets and met some lovely people from Brazil.Worth seeing.
Worth a trip. Quite the sight spend time walking around. Also ate at the wynwood kitchen and bar. Yum.
The artwork at Wynwood Walls is brilliant. However, the enclosed area does feel more like an art exhibition, as opposed to graffiti that blends in with its urban/industrial surroundings. Unfortunately we were on a tour and didn't get a chance to step outside and around the wider area which looks like a much better area to explore, especially as a photographer. Great initiative though, and I can't really fault the space they've put together to allow people to wander around take in the art.
I had heard that Wynwood was a cool thing to do when visiting Miami but it was even more interesting and fun than I expected. Plan to spend a few hours and go for a meal. There are many cute restaurants and even a Panther coffee house (Miami's answer to better-than-Starbucks). Just park your car or get out of the cab and walk around. Start at the Wynwood walls which are a rotating exhibition of artists given outdoor exhibition space. Some are permanent like the Shepard Fairey and Keith Haring. Rest are given to local/up and coming artists. At the galleries, you can spend $150,000 or spend $40.
If you are a photographer or just love good punchy poster art, this the place for you. If you are shooting, try to bring everything from wide angle to telephoto. Underexpose a little so the Reds, yellows and oranges don't blow out. The best of the best is to see the process take place. I was fortunate to watch for 8 hours and see a wall go from white to finish. WOW.
A cool spot to park and wander. Graffiti in the best sense of the word - edgy, insightful, odd, impressive.
We loved our visit to a Wynwood, probably one of the highlights of our trip to Miami, the walls are simply amazing. And the surrounding areas are filled with amazing artwork too. We visited, Wood Tavern, TSL lounge, the butcher shop and gramps and all were amazing! Highly recommend visiting
When in Miami, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Wynwood walls. I went in the late afternoon, stayed till sundown. Love how the lighting allowed the artwork to show some cool shadowing. The area is coming alive with cafes and bars, what a gem!
Gallery central! Up and coming artists exhibit their art on building walls, warehouses, etc. The restaurants in the area have good food too. Several of these warehouses have also been converted into coffee houses, clubs and bars. Others are clothes designer's warehouses, floral shops and even a gun range. Not South Beach at all. If you enjoy a place where the "cool cats" hang out - this is the place!
These walls are brilliant and the artists who created them should be appreciated and applauded. The graffiti nearby is expanding and new dining spots are opening.
