Very good time. The guide was very friendly. Also the view was amazing. Our hotel was a cross the street so we got a birds eye view all day and night.
This light house sits near the bridge and the old fort. You have a beautiful view of the water and the bridge. You can watch the big ships sail by. This lighthouse looks like a combination of castle, estate home, and lighthouse. Unfortunately we got there too late to tour, it closes at 5PM.
This Lighthouse has alot of history, plus it is right by the Mackinaw Bridge. The employees were helpful in answering any questions we had about the coast guard on watch here when the light was working. We went here before we went to the Fort that is right next door.
This was already closed for the season. However, we called ahead of time and they told us to be sure to at least visit and take pictures of the outside. So we did just that. Took some photos of the light house and the bridge.
Very well maintained and kept very clean. They've got informative guides and the views are awesome. Well worth the climb up top.
Beautiful porthole views for photos of the bridge as you climb the tower. Views abound. As always, well worth the climb. Nice setting.
We spent a couple of hours touring The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. The pictures, the written history of the lighthouse, the lightkeeper and his family, the hundreds of artifacts, and the tour of the tower captivated our attention with every step. Old Mackinau Point Lighthouse was the perfect historic tour.
Under the shadow of the bridge, the lighthouse is now in the heart of the activity in Mackinaw City. It is easy to imagine the barren coast line and sailing ships relying on its light to keep them safe.
This lighthouse looks like a castle with a lighthouse attached. The grounds around this building are easily navigated, and there is a separate building with restrooms inside. The tour was conducted by a costumed docent that told us the history of this lighthouse and some of its keepers. The interior is larger than I thought it would be, although two families lived in there at the same time. The view of the bridge is breathtaking! Lake Michigan and Lake Huron come together at the straits, and you can just imagine the importance of this lighthouse's job in guiding the ships to safety.
We had a very relaxing time walking around and being able to visit the light house. Put your walking shoes on, you don't want to sit, just go explore the shops and the lighthouse~Look out at the water and breathe that clean air!
