Not very crowded. Very unique topography, with a rock-enclosed mini-bay, a more-traditional oceanside area, and a calm little lagoon. Lots of friendly, roaming dogs to keep you company. ;)
I'm not a big fan of this beach but I can't deny its beauty. During the winter months it's not crowded but summer is a different story. There are too many stray dogs which makes me suffer since I am constantly rescuing strays in Puerto Rico. There are nice cliffs to walk on some great scenic the bay itself is small. If you are looking for peace I recommend Los Tubos beach I prefer this beach much more
We visited Mar Chiquita on Christmas Day. The small parking area had several stray dogs either wandering around or lying down, so that part was definitely not appealing to us. We saw people going through a path to the right, and that led to a great view of the ocean. We went back to the main shoreline, which is really part of an enclosed area where the ocean waters just slip through a small section between two cliffs, creating sort of a lagoon picture, albeit with strong waves. We did not stay long, though we did notice people enjoying having the beach to themselves on a nice sunny day.
Although there are no facilities right on the beach, it is one beautiful little piece of the planet. I’m told it can get crowded in summer weekends, but during our Christmas stay it wasn’t. Dramatic rock outcrops just about encircle the beach save an opening where waves crash through. I would not get too far out in the water when it’s rough. You can climb the rocks and see the waves crashing on the other side. Use caution as there are no lifeguards and you are left to your own devices.Strongly suggest you GPS/Google etc. as the access is not very obvious once you leave the main road.Have fun
This out of the way beach offers an amazing spectacle of crashing waves through the opening of a sheltered cove. You don't go here for amazing white sands or gentle swimming. You go here for the spectacular scenery and surfing, if you are strong, or challenging swimming, or just the best walk down the beach and then across the coral outcropping. The beach was clean but the areas around the small parking lot could have used a few Boy Scouts cleaning the place up.Just be warned, the surf is strong and we were told their can be strong undertows. We did see someone swimming and a surfer who was a frequent visitor, was about to venture forth on his boogy board. The refreshment stand was closed when we were there, so don't count on there being food. Just drink in the experience.
This was one of our most memorable day trips. The water is definitely rough so I would advise against swimming too deeply if you are not a confident swimmer. Even so the formation is unlike anything I have ever seen. For those who are more adventurous climb up on the rocks so you can see the other side of the this beach. They did have a port-o-potty here, but it was obviously not too clean. When facing the beach from the parking lot turn right towards the trees and the brick wall. There are 2 openings in the wall that will lead you to another private beach. Not for swimming or anything, just to see another side of it - we only stood for about 5 minutes
unfortunately there is too much litter for such a gem. People pick up your trash! Not really for swimming as much as viewing. Walk to the east of here for larger very pretty beach.
This is one of my favorite places in Puerto Rico. Its about 45 minutes drive from San Juan and a bit hard to find, but worth the effort. In winter it is rarely used, so a great place to go to get away from the crowds. In summer it is very busy since summer is beach time for people who live on the island. The surf can be rough, so beware unless you are a strong swimmer. The views are wonderful from the top of the cliffs. Wear shoes while walking on the cliffs, because the sharp rocks are murder on the feet.
An unusual shape (almost closed ring) of shoreline enclosed by wind-blown deposits of fossilized sand which makes it great for exploring. No lifeguard on duty or public restrooms.
I was good place to visit. You can feel different here. I recommend to go with your friends and family to enjoy more
