you can hand feed the animals, even monkeys! You get up close to the white lions.far more interactive than big city zoos.they have gumboots and umbrellas avaliable so weather doesnt stop a great day.
The kids and I have visited this Zoo twice and each time have had a ball. This is a country zoo and has a friendly relaxed feeling. The animals are well cared for and appear comfortable. The camels are hilarious to feed and they take great delight in trying to steal your spade. One particular deer met us at the entry and followed my 8 year old son around for our entire visit (and he didn't even carry the food bucket!). The zoo was very quiet when we were there, only a couple of other families, and we had a lovely chat with the owner, he even let us take home a peacock feather that we had found. A lovely day out if you are in the Mansfield area.
Open from 10am daily, the Mansfield Zoo is a unique, privately owned zoo which is located only 8km's from MansfieldA reasonable adult entry of $15 goes a long way and assists in the owners keeping this zoo open to the public. You can hand feed, most of the animals here, so it is great for children and adults alike.Wander around the grounds at your own leisure and visit the different enclosures and the keeper talks too. Pat the Dingo's and don't miss the lion feeding, especially of the two recent additions of the Albino lion brothers.
Kids liked it , I dont really go for Zoo;s but quite good. Can get really hot in summer , sunsceen and a hat
The keepers were enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. The zoo is well laid out to stroll around and many of the animals follow you. Seeing the white lions is an absolute honour given there are only 102 left in the world. Barely 5 feet away from them at feeding time is an experience of a life time. An absolute must.
When we started our journey out of Melbourne we didn't realise how far out of the way this zoo is but had a day to kill and kids were excited about the lion feeding. We arrived to find no one around although open, the kids then came running saying they had been told off by a "horrid old woman", my husband went in search of the person to see what the problem was only to find it was the owner, she was really abrasive, later spoke to a lovely young man who worked there who said they were no problem at all and gave them some feed for the deers. Kids loved the animals but it kind of spoilt the whole experience and felt her eyes were on us the whole time. I realise it is her zoo and home, but if you are going to invite tourists on to your property and charge them for it some good manners wouldn't go amiss. Apart from the lions you can get this experience - with a smile - just about anywhere in Australia.
There are many tapes of animals there especially they have white lions. You can feed some animals like the kangaroos and the deers. Very great experience.
We felt very welcome from the moment we arrived! The owner and her staff were very friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to help. The zoo itself is so different from any zoo I have been to. Though not the largest zoo, the animals are very social and curious which makes it a very unique visit. We stayed overnight at the zoo and pitched a tent right next to the lion enclosure. Was a spectacular sight with a sky filled with stars and the ambiance of all the animals. Had a bonfire and toasted some marshmallows. Will be recommending this zoo to anyone and everyone! Thank you for a wonderful stay :)
Awsome interaction with the animals. You can stand and feed animals like dufferent kinds of deer, kangeroos, birds and lamas.
Thank you to all the pleasant staff at Mansfield Zoo for looking after me on my overnight adventure. It was amazing to see the lions being fed, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to camp ten meters from these magnificent creatures. Must admit it took time to fall asleep but the night sky and lions roaring was incredible. It was nice to wake up and roam around the zoo on Day 2, checking out all the other wonderful animals they have there in such a relaxed friendly environment. Thanks for a great camping experience!!
